Photographer’s Notes
I am a 54 year old amateur photographer, married to someone who would not be understanding about my interviewing women regarding the prospect of taking their picture au natural – let alone actually taking said photos. The chances that I would take a real nude photo are therefore somewhere in the range between zero and none. So out of the box is where I have to start in this challenge.

My interest runs more to the nude female of the species. I had seen Guys & Dolls recently and the aphorism “dolls” had kind of stuck with me. That led me to “paper dolls,” “beauty is only skin deep,” “paper thin,” and other free associative drivel.

Girls play with "paper" dolls. Boys play with warm blooded dolls. What about boys playing with paper dolls. This in turn led me to the kind of paper dolls an older boy might like to play with. And a photo idea was born.

Oddly the greatest challenge I had was cutting out the dolls. I am rotten at paper dolls. And finding a doll design that would reveal enough is a lot harder than it looks. Placing it correctly to meet the challenge ain't easy either. Give it a try if you doubt me.

I had fun with this challenge. I hope you enjoy the results.

What a clever idea.

I originally started posting on "photo.net" and there you get a rating 1-7 for creativity and 1-7 for aestetics. this most definately would have gotten a 7 for creativity. and the aestetics are beautiful. very nicely done. IMHO it should have gotten a much higher rating... but then there's no accounting for taste

Should have ranked MUCH higher, IMHO. Love your work, added both you and this shot to my favorites.

Cheers from Zurich, Switzerland, to Kirkland WA - was there just 2 years ago on a massive road trip of the American West.

Definitely outside the box here, but doesn't appeal to me that much even outside of a Nude challenge. Good lighting and focus though.

I think this a clever take on the shot and I like the snipped out pieces near the scissors. Nicely composed.

interesting take on the theme. I have to say I like the scissors better than the cutout...

Boy with long, dirty nail on his left thumb... Should have used those scisors on him, first and this would get one more point. It is, however, technically well executed and quite funny, at least original.

Nice work with the theme - something a little different.

I like the idea behind this, but I don't think there is enough nude for this challenge.
Good luck.

I like the out-of-the-box thinking of this one. Well-titled.

Creative take on this challenge, clean shot, good lighting and entertaining to look at. Lighting is a bit off on the left but not bad.

certainly out of the box here. Very interesting take on this challenge.

Less obvious interpretation of the challenge, nice concept. Seems a bit flat though (I'm often guilty of this myself and am learning to recognize it), and a bit off color(just a bit too red I think).

I feel you sidestepped the intent of the challenge.

This is quite a fun shot, the glare on the right doll is distracting, as are the clippings. I think it's a loose grasp of the challenge however. I wish you luck.

Not very creative IMHO unless you photographed the nude used in the doll.

The color and/or lighting on the hands seems a little off. The glare on the right doll is distracting for me. Nice idea!

nice crisp image but doesn't meet the challenge to me, sorry

Hmm, interesting, but I don't think realy portrays the nudits that most people are expecting to see.
The lighting is good, maybe a little yellow in the shadow on the left. I think you have mixed lights creating these colours.

While the idea is great and creative, I think this image misses the spirit of the challenge topic. The image itself is good technically.
