Challenge: Rain (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S50
Location: Hollins Mill Park in Lynchburg, VA
Date: Aug 10, 2005
Aperture: 2.8
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/25
Galleries: Landscape
Date Uploaded: Aug 14, 2005

In the challenge period, it rained for a total of 20 minutes, but that 20 minutes was impressive. I was soaked to the bone after that storm, and I had some decent photos. I doctored a lot of them up the way that I normally do (convert to greyscale, crank up the levels, and then give it a good quadtoning), but I wanted to submit a color shot. I really like those quadtone shots, but I felt like I'm getting in a rut. I mean, most of my shots lately are all processed the same way.

The editting here was simple - I duplicated the background layer, set the new layer to mulitply, and dropped the opacity to 65%. After a little USM, that was it. This is basically the shot straight out of the camera.

I know it's hard to tell here, but it was raining horribly in this shot, but with a fairly long exposure, the rain just kind of ends up looking like haze.

I do hope you will look at my portfolio here and check out the other shots I could've submitted. So, was I wrong? Nah...didn't think so.

a little rain shouldn't dampen the occassion :) the lonlely bench is a great take on this challenege... IMHO, clone out that patch of paved walkway to the bottom right...

Nice shot. Good focus and DOF. Nice color too. Subject matter is not terribly appealing to me personally, but it's still a good shot.

I keep skipping this one, then coming back to it, then skipping it, then coming back. The composition is well-balanced adn works well. The colors are bold, but not too much so (with the possible exception of the really really green grass at the far side of hte table), and the focus and all that seems to be fine, yet it is lacking somethign for me. Perhaps if there was something on the table like a soggy bouquet of flowers, or child's toy, or empty drink cans, it would help tell more of a story.

Good concept and technically well-executed, but not much beyond that.

I like the spread of the subject matter through near to far. The natural framing by the tree branches gives a nice, sheltered feeling. Good job!

compositionally i like this, but the foreground appears a tad on the dark side, and the top side of the frame is a tad busy. 5

this is one of those wonderful images that may not receive the credit it deserves on DPC because it doesn't have that wow factor and isn't a close up of a raindrop. To me this photograph speaks volumes more than most others. Keep up the good worl.
