If you should make a print of this available, I'd be very interested. Please do let me know.

In answer to Drew's question, possibly not yet introduced to DPC. I am just making it a favourite now and wasn't a member during this challenge...

There's already 9 favorites on this photo and only 22 votes of 10 -- where were you all when this picture should have placed??

your master plan paid off: have attractive offspring, grow them to the right age, photograph them and submit the image to dpchallenge.com ; ).. Way to go!!

I'm really happy to see this one so high in the rankings -- still one of my favorites.

Great portrait, nice framing.
06/09/2002 01:59:00 PM
Oh gosh! What an adorable photograph. I love how innocent and ponderous the child looks and how they're looking up and out of the frame. Lovely capture!
06/09/2002 12:23:00 AM
Acutally, of all the baby/child shots, I like yours best. Not really sure why...just do. Maybe the expression....and the unique hat..
06/08/2002 02:01:00 PM
Perfect.
06/07/2002 06:33:00 PM
great expression, good exposure and tonal control

First Class Portrait. 10/10

The best of the shots of children this week IMO. Great contrast, excellent focus. And just so you know I am going back and raising my vote on this one, it honestly got rated as average in my first round, because I was so overwhelmed by the shear numbers of children and cat photographs. My appologies for that. Nice portrait.
06/07/2002 02:29:00 AM
is this the same child from the previous challenge? cute kid.
06/06/2002 09:09:00 PM
Very good! Perfect lighting for the mood. Excellent pose, good subject, very expressive. I can't think of a thing that could improve this!
06/06/2002 08:11:00 PM
Charming. Classic. Timeless.... What more can I say? Oh! Great texture in the hat which is picked up beautifully in B&W.
06/06/2002 12:35:00 PM
I have this thing about 'untitled' pictures - I think they should get one! Apart from that, this is a wonderfully executed photo. The framing, crispness, 'colors' (or should I say shades) are great. This is definitely in my top 10 and should rate high overall. Would've also rated high for the people competition, I'm sure.

The best kid shot here, I believe :). Great range of tones, beautifully lit, beautifully framed, beautifully photographed. 10 from me.
06/05/2002 02:39:00 PM
beautiful. well done.
06/05/2002 12:46:00 PM
what an attractive child. the texture on the hat is awesome. the lighting it just about perfect. some might suggest lighting LL but I like the shadows there - gives the piece some mood.
06/05/2002 11:37:00 AM
Beautiful! I love the way it's framed.
06/05/2002 10:45:00 AM
Wow. what a doll. I don't care for the hat in b&w but the childs face makes up for any 'flaws' - darling. good job. A winner.
06/04/2002 11:23:00 PM
I love this photograph ... the life in the eyes is so real. Beautiful work.
06/04/2002 10:46:00 PM
Cute girl. The hat is more focused that the girl's face.
06/04/2002 10:39:00 PM

06/04/2002 03:28:00 PM
I like the lighting and the composition. Very nice shot
06/04/2002 12:17:00 PM
Amazing shot. Wonderful textures, and wonderful lighting. You've really managed an extremely effective and full-of-life shot -- great job.
06/04/2002 10:10:00 AM
Very nice even lighting. Wonderful photograph. This is my favorite of the children this week.
06/04/2002 01:43:00 AM
Nice portrait. What kind of textile technique is used to make the hat? I can't quite tell even though the stitches are clear.
06/04/2002 12:27:00 AM
I like this photograph ...
06/03/2002 11:37:00 PM
Good detail, lighting, texture, composition.
06/03/2002 07:14:00 PM
What a gorgeous expression. Very well done shot, technically and artistically.
06/03/2002 06:46:00 PM
good clarity. cute girl.
06/03/2002 05:51:00 PM
You must have a very nice camera... great detail, even in the shadows.
06/03/2002 05:27:00 PM
Excellent composition -- I like the way you captured the texture of the hat, and the child's expression.
06/03/2002 04:59:00 PM
Magnificent.
06/03/2002 03:39:00 PM
Wow. The smoothness of the child's face against the nubby texture of the hat is incredible. This is the kind of portrait that grandmothers keep on their walls for decades. This is way cool.
06/03/2002 03:24:00 PM
The best.....portaits in B&W....!! You've done very well here. Darling child. Bravo.
06/03/2002 12:57:00 PM
excellent portrait!
06/03/2002 12:20:00 PM
Another fine portrait.
06/03/2002 11:55:00 AM
Excellent! I normally don't care much for kid shots, but this one is very well done and the framing and composition are excellent! You have just the right amount of glisten in the eyes :) Good job!
06/03/2002 10:51:00 AM
Great candid portraint. the highlights in the eyes and lower lip are just right -right at the top of the tonal range. The dynamic range is well controlled. I like the sharp detail in the hat with the soft "glow" in the skin. NIce cropping as well. Well done.

Lovely tones in the face and hat and the light on the cheeks is great. More eye contact might havve helped.
