** Greetings from the Critique Club **

Technical: Lighting needs correction as there is a distractive glare along the top of the glass and chrome ring. The angle of the lighting leaves an undesirable shadow along the left side of the scale. Background choice is not one I would have recommended. Rather a solid white, or off-white would have done better I think. To add interest, the iPod could have been turned on so that the screen had something other than a blank face. Also would have kept the ear phone cord off the face of the scale. Exposure controls and white balance seemed right on.

Composition: well executed - good example of the rule of thirds.

lovely idea and i like the simplicity of the image

funny stuff. 7. that reflection on the glass and shadow on the floor detract a bit though.

Ha that's great a 60lb Ipod! How rich! A1 shot! 6.5

Whenever I see a set up shot like this, I immediately look for the flaws. After all with a shot like this you have total controll over all elements. The first thing I notice here is that your lighting causes a reflection on the scales glass that dulls out the numbers. Move things around a bit till the relection is gone and you got one hell of a shot. I would also have put the headphone cord all on the scale's pad as it looks awkward and conflicts with the scales 'reading' the way ya got it here...

Neat play on words! I think this is a good picture except for the top of the scale has a little too much light on it.

Good illusion. I'm curious as to how you accomplished this...
08/11/2005 01:34:17 PM
Good idea, although I find the lighting a little harsh.

I like the idea.

Simple and effective. My only crtitism is that the headphone leads are lost on the right hand side. They should ideally bee seen

lol, mine is about that heavy too!

creative idea

Ha ha ha - that is funny! I do that all the time in my head, nice to see it in fruition.

Good concept, just not sure I like the use of an iPod here.

listening to heavy metal? cool

I've been trying to figure out what is on the scale to make it weigh so much. Surely you fixed the scale some how. Technically, the picture looks sound. Good job.

nice idea...i think it could have more impact on a different background or with different lighting.

Great title and idea. The only downside is the brightness in the reflection is a little distracting.

Aah Get it hehe! Very good!
I think a bit too much reflection on the top right of the scale, and straightening the tile lines would not have hurt.

Overall very nice 9

Hehehhehehe! I like this. The tile is a bit distracting but the idea of a 60gig Ipod is fabulous :)
08/08/2005 11:52:33 PM
lol! I always thought those ipods were too big myself.
in regards to your shot, i think it lacks sharpness.. I'd like to see the numbers and ipod sharper.

LOL - Funny and very well composed. The glare on the glass is a little strong, but otherwise, great job.

I love the idea, but I *hate* the dirty-looking tile background. This would have been much more effective with the scale on a clean white or black surface, so the attention would be on your subject. The scale and ipod lack some clarity as well, but the illusion is neat!

i like the idea. control of the glare would have aided presentation. if this was from a window, drawing the curtain or covering it with a sheet can help. alternatively, a large piece of cardboard held or suspended just above the subject will also diffuse light.

hah, creative and an illusion. i give you a 7 just for the creativity. the only problem with this shot, as im sure you know, is the highlight on the top right of the chrome. other than that i think you have a great shot... .and an off balance scale.

Nice effect, good color, nice detail. Would be cooler to see the heavy metal song on the I pod.
08/08/2005 01:53:09 PM
Now that's funny... I think it would have been better on a white background though.
08/08/2005 12:21:26 PM
So is that the 60 gig model? if so, that would lead one to believe a gig weighs a lb.
08/08/2005 11:58:57 AM
Nice idea ! It would have been nice to see a song title on the IPod's screen.
08/08/2005 07:47:46 AM
Good imagination. Creatively done with a good sense of humor.
08/08/2005 05:37:26 AM
The glare off the glass of the scales is distracting here.

i giggled at this one smartypants

Must be in direct proportion to the cost...
08/08/2005 12:22:34 AM
Very cool idea! Love the shot, only thing I can pick at to change would maybe be the shadow / lighting? Other than that awesome job!
