Feels a bit too contrived. Light could work more effectively to bring out the shell texture.

I don't understand the shot... it looks nice but is lacking something.

I love the way the title works with the photo good job

Great idea - nice balance and contrast.

As in Yin-Yang? Cool photo, like the contrast of the shiny black with the kind of blurred white. good idea.

Good contrast, The shell seems kind of oof to me.

I really like the simplicity and contrast of this picture.

The window light on the pearl is nice, and the contrast is just right. Don't think scallops make pearls, tho. {g}

It seems that the marble is in focus but the shell is out of the field of focus. Inching a tripod back and forth and taking a shot avery few cm. would have given you at least one where everything is in focus--front to back and top to bottom.

perhaps if the shells were still together, so you could see the pearl inside of it... sorry, this just doesn't 'pop' for me.

I have to admit I have a prejudice toward highlight and lowlight impeccably focused (unless it's obviously a depth of field photo). I believe the shell to be ever so slightly out of focus but otherwise technically perfect.

Nice and simple, although I would have enjoyed to see this at a more interesting angle.

Nice concept, although I don't think that particular bivalve produces pearls, black or otherwise.

i think you mean Yin Yang

Neat b&w. Creative work. Would of like more focus.

This is one of the photos that really makes this challenge difficult, so good it is a a real pearl! It might be interesting to see what type of reflections one could get, but I cannot think of what could be done to better this one.

Ying/Yang---FOCUS!!!!!
06/03/2002 02:21:00 PM
a pearl from a scallop?

To me this is very sexual, a bit like the shiva linga from Hinduism that combines symbols of male and female genitals. However, it also unites something organic with something that appears artificial, although both things have their own geometric beauty. It's a very strong, symbolic photo. Well done :)

Shell seems to be out of focus. Interesting picture though.
06/03/2002 10:44:00 AM
great title! actually complements the picture perfectly!
06/03/2002 07:28:00 AM

This is a nice shot! It may be my eyes, but I think there is a slight tilt to the right... I think this shot needs perfect alignment to work at it's best potential :)
06/03/2002 05:46:00 AM
Definately a 10 for this creative picture. The title of you shot is very appropriate as well.

A tighter crop would have been nice
