Thanks all so much for your comments! This shattered by far all my expectations for it. I waited for over an hour and a half taking pictures by the side of the road, and I'm glad to see it worked out!

Some comment response:
The camera perspective - I agree that it could have benifitted by being raised, but there is an ugle line of houses in the background and I couldnt get it any higher than this.

For the title - I debated over just the date for a long time, but finally went for the added description, just to avoid any confusion.

I think this is fantastic and probably would have given it a 9. As for the title, I can see why you used it for the challenge (as somewhat of an explanation to the viewers), but I think (as said below) that no title or just the year would be more mysterious too. I certainly wouldn't dock you 3 points for the title though. :-) This is so beautiful.

i gave it 10 and i knew that it is a good taste winner and ....first place...regards

In fact to me, this shot without the title tells other stories before the Lewis & Clark one. Just my opinion, discard it if you wish, I only comment because it IS a great photo. But for me, it's all about the Challenge first. Ok, up to 5 from 4. Just in my opinion, if you had just the year, it would leave the viewer 'open' to interpret it in a variety of ways. Criticism; maybe a different frame, maybe a little less of the fore, but that does add balance, look in MY opinion, it is an excellent shot, just... that ol' title business that was part of the description and that 'most' have adhered to. Definitely an 8 with just the year.

IS THIS DIGITAL PHOTO CHALLENGE, OR DIGITAL PHOTO TITLE CHALLENGE? SHOULDN'T WE BE SCORING ON PHOTOGRAPHIC QUALITIES AND MEETING THE CHALLENGE CRITERIA

I don't understand how you dropped the score three points because of the title? I know it is YOUR opinion, but that just seems really silly to me. One point I can understand... maybe, but three points? Hmmm....

I didn't vote on this challenge, but I saw this shot, and was just blown away. My first thought was "How is it possible to get a shot like this with one week notice, and no advanced editing?". I laughed when I saw the photo had already been validated - someone else thought the same thing.

Awesome shot. I love everything about it. Congratulations on the blue ribbon.

I didn't rank this photo very high either. Nothing against the photo itself just that I didn't see this as a strong entry for this particular challenge. Luckly for you the majority disagreed :) and felt a shot of teepees fit this era. Interesting shot nonetheless.

Great picture. The only think that I think could have improved it it to raise the camera a bit so that the ground does not block the bottom of the tents as it currently is doing. Still should do really well in this challenge though.

This is a wonderful photo. The composition and low perspective are very nice. The shadowy mountains make a wonderful backdrop to the teepees and the line of cloud at the top of the photo giving way to the weight of the water and starting to fall. Best of all ... it fits within the challenge really nicely. Excelent work!!

P.S. you didn't need the Lewis and Clark portion of the title ... the "era" feeling needed no explanation.
