Glittering crumbs of auto safety glass show where something violent happened the night before. Now, though, on the bright sunny morning after, these crumbs are all we have to guess by.

Hi Eloise, thanks for your comment on my pic. For what it's worth I also took a shoot much like yours, but the light wasn't quite right and the glass didn't show up well, so I submitted my lower-ranking image instead. You'll see that comments are frequently contradictory (a good thing!)and generally indicate that some voters seem to spend less than around 10 seconds thinking about an image before casting a vote. I usually mark these as helpful, anyway, as it is good feedback, sort of.
Don't be bitter, I thought your photo of glass in an everyday context was worth a 7, It shows more imagination and photographic acumen than the majority of bland backlit images in the challenge.

Eloise, greetings and welcome to DPChallenge. I noticed that you are new and I have read your profile information. It's great to have photographers in the family. My dad was a professional photographer for years and he is an invaluable technical resource to me.

I think your skills will develop nicely as you continue to participate on dpchallenge. I notice that you leave a lot of comments, which, in my opinion, is one of the best ways to improve your own photography. Giving critique seems to stick with me better than anything. My 'critiques' roll around in my head when I'm out shooting... It helps keep composition and subjectivity in my thoughts.

A couple of quick tips for you that could help you get started...

1 - subject choice is everything. the amount of interest level your subject has will be directly reflected in your scores on this site.

2 - literal straight-on views of most interesting subjects don't usually perform as well as some non-literal view would. once you choose your subject, look for an interesting perspective and interesting lighting.

3 - have a good time :) Don't get discouraged... keep plugging :)

Too bad about the finish really. I was expecting more.

I think this would have made a much more interesting macro. However, I understand that sometimes the risk involved would just be too great. Maybe if the pieces of glass were a little more distinguishable. Right now, the crack in the pavement is what grabs and holds my attention.

This photo meets the challenge, but it's fairly weak subjectively... nothing inspiring or interesting to look at in the photo...

Nice idea, which has unfortunately not worked. I think that if there had been quite a bit more glass, you idea might have worked a lot better.

With both the glass and the crack in the pavement this is an interesting picture. I think without one of those elements it would be boring.
