this photo just misses being scored higher. lots of really nice things about it, but i really find the right side to be distracting and it takes away from the effect of the colors and textures

You framed or cropped this really quite well. Interesting textures and colors. Focus could have been a bit sharper.

Patella's Saggy Baggy IMAGE_ID=3726 looked much like this, compositionally. He chose to enhance the textures using some unconventional unsharp mask settings and the effort won a ribbon. Not sure the same trick would work twice, but I do think that it is in the textures that the strength of this photo lies, and I believe there are spots where sharpening would improve the textures.
