Not much post editing aside from increasing the overall red/yellow hue/sat. I used a light wand to make the halo.

I posted a simple tutorial on this photo
here.

Congratulations!!! Thanks for the tutorial. Truly inspiring. I Thought this was going to get the blue. I guess many people voted down in disbelief of being a valid shot in Basic Editing.
07/13/2005 08:40:50 AM
I think this should have gotten the blue, but 11 surely ain't bad! Congrats.
07/13/2005 08:26:32 AM
Congratulations on a great finish! I thought you had a ribbon for sure, but 11th in a field of over 500 ain't bad at all!
07/13/2005 07:55:54 AM
Congrats!!! Well done.
07/13/2005 07:55:23 AM
VERY COOL!!! Thx for the tutorial as well!! UI've learned a lot!! :-)

OK... how'd you do that?
07/12/2005 11:26:31 PM
Nicely done. A week ago I would have challenged this shot, but I now know about light painting. The bright background looks to have cause some minor difficulty, but it's still come out really well.
07/12/2005 10:20:59 PM
don't know how you did it, but I love it! what a great imge, I peg this at number one. I hope you tell us how you did it
07/12/2005 10:10:11 PM
Very nice. Hope you share your technique.
07/12/2005 02:55:13 PM
pretty cool... I'd like to know the technique
07/12/2005 01:59:44 PM
Wow! Great! I love the originality, the light, the white, the pose, the expression, the detail, but the left eye is too dark, which keeps bugging me.
07/11/2005 06:37:39 PM
Thats really cool, but it would show up much better against a darker background, but still very cool!
07/11/2005 05:33:08 PM
Awesome shot, hope you get a ribbon.
07/11/2005 03:38:40 PM
Great just a great shot! 9

Brilliant image... and it's been validated too so I will give you a perfect 10. Hope this is a top ranker.

Just my 2cents worth.. the circle is very bright and so not very clear. would have loved a darker bakground.

I hope you put a tutorial on how you actually shot this.
07/11/2005 12:12:33 AM
I never trust a man who claims to be an angel - but I must admit this is cute. I am hoping at the end of the challenge that you'll share how you did this. 10
07/10/2005 03:07:21 PM
Nicely done! I've tried this before, and it is hard to do. You did a great job with the halo and with the overal lighting of the subject.
07/10/2005 01:08:54 PM
Not a big fan of halos, but this is really cool! Nice cotton shirt too!
07/09/2005 05:54:42 PM
I like the creation part of this photo. very creative! 8 from me!

Sure, ruin the chances of winning for the rest of us. Normally I try to say something constructive about each photo I comment on instead of saying crap like 'Nice Photo' or 'Cool' or 'My mother has the exact same motorcycle', but in this case, I am either too tired to come up with a comment or too cynical. Regardless, I guess I can wish you and your white shirt good luck...but why spoil this comment now?
07/08/2005 10:15:05 PM
Fantastic! 10
07/08/2005 07:24:58 PM
humorous and clever.
07/08/2005 05:01:58 PM
Very creative! I like the way the pinky finger is just touching a ray of light.
07/08/2005 12:14:53 AM
very cool, and definitely original ;D
07/07/2005 10:34:41 PM
This is my favorite so far. 10....how did you get the halo with the star effect? brilliant!
07/07/2005 05:41:43 PM
I love the contrast between the 'good' side of the halo, and the distinctively mischevious gleam in his eye! - the shadow on his left eye really highlights this. The only minor niggle I have is the strong shadow cast on his neck.
07/07/2005 01:23:48 PM
Very creative! Haven't seen anything quite like this! Dying to see how it was done! Only suggestion is the dark spot on his left eye. 9
07/07/2005 07:48:18 AM
thats cool, your halo is shining :)
07/06/2005 11:42:36 PM
Neat. I would like to find out how you did this.
07/06/2005 10:53:40 PM
You have to tell us how you did this when the challenge is over! Great shot. 10 from me
07/06/2005 07:25:30 PM
Aweeeeee someone requested validation. They just didn't get the tech involved I suppose. I really like this shot, only wish there was more light on his face. Seems so much light hit the shirt (wrinkled), but very little got to the main part of the face (no catchlights in left eye).
07/06/2005 04:28:54 PM
I just don't think this fellow is that innocent but it is an interesting shot. Love how the halo was done.
07/06/2005 04:07:25 PM
Cooooool!
07/06/2005 03:44:43 PM
Amazing shot. I wonder how in the world you did that. I hope you explained. I love all the soft whites. It goes perfectly with your photo. I really like this one alot. 10
07/06/2005 03:33:55 PM
Very creative and fun composition.
07/06/2005 03:30:23 PM

07/06/2005 03:10:00 PM
I'd like to know how you did the halo... Great shot.
07/06/2005 03:04:39 PM
Good shot. Crisp and creative. Good luck!
07/06/2005 01:35:11 PM
Funny! I like the idea, very original!
07/06/2005 12:40:10 PM
smart fun
07/06/2005 12:12:29 PM
Great shot. Would love to know how you got that halo there.
07/06/2005 10:14:25 AM
Nice concept and execution. I think it could have been better with a black background, but given the "gee wiz" factor you'll probably get a ribbon. Great work.
07/06/2005 09:08:50 AM
what a fab picture! Wonder how you did that with basic editing? such a cool pic.
07/06/2005 05:58:13 AM
Perhaps a different angle on the up-light to reduse the shaddows on his left eye?
07/06/2005 05:08:22 AM
COOL!! I'm anxious to find out how this was done.
07/06/2005 01:56:04 AM
And you did this with basic editing??? WOW! It is great. Love the monochromatic theme. The face is great - I even like the shadow on the right eye. Very clever. It gets a 10 from me.
07/06/2005 01:22:32 AM
I'm dying to see how you did this!!
07/06/2005 12:31:14 AM
great job! this is a great idea and greatly composed
07/06/2005 12:26:32 AM
awesome! brilliant idea and wonderfully presented! caught my eye from the thumbs :-) 9
07/06/2005 12:09:15 AM
Hilarious. I have no idea how you did this, but it's great!
