* Greetings from the Critique Club *

Man, I've gotten some tough ones to comment on lately - and this one is right up there with the best of them!

First of all, I think that this artistically met the challenge quite well. I wondered if someone would submit something like this. You must admit, that this is an extremely difficult image to comment on...

I do like it - in the context of the challenge. I guess I can't say too much more about the composition, crop, color, clarity, or lighting. I think they all speak for themselves in this shot.

Nice job. :-)

Just my 2 cents...

Jimmy

A man of your religious conviction could be expected to stir the "meet the challenge" pot in such a playful way to have fun with the challenge topic. Congratulations - mission accomplished. :)

I understand your concept, but I think you could put forth a great deal more effort.

Polar bears deciding which way to go during a blizzard is hard to capture with a digital camera. You've done about as good as it can be done. Kudos to you.

I understand the "White on white" idea, but i don't think it belongs in this challenge.

"this photo has been validated" ?...that's just the icing on the cake! How refreshing this actually is after looking at soooo many rather death-centric images...go into the light...go into the light!

different, but not particular interesting

nice idea

It's a good thing this one got validated, otherwise, you might have risked entering such a beaut and missing out on the definite blue ribbon. Keep up the awesome work, love it, speaks so many messages at once, more than a thousand words. I love the tonal texture, and the useage of the rule of fifths in this one. Fantastic manipulation of lighting in the post-processing, lost points on camera shake though, I can see the detail is slightly hazy. Otherwise, and overall, fantastic well-put-together image! Fabulous. ......Now only if everyone else feels the same as me, we have a winner, and a site as corrupt as classic mutiny on the high seas.... Don't judge me.

So who are you anyway, i don't think there's any risk in it...

Hehehe... I don't know why you bothered sending in proof to get this validated - I wouldn't really want the 2.2 on my profile. I would have thought this was clever, but someone submitted an almost identical shot (it was all black) for the indecision challenge. Hence I'll give you a 5.

Nice I couldn't come up with anything myself.(had to refresh the page a few times as I thought the image didn't load) :)

True indecisions can cause very blank ideas.

06/05/2005 11:18:20 PM
The composition is a little boring, should have chosen a better angle.

06/05/2005 01:21:01 PM
IS this supposed to be blank?
  Photographer found comment helpful.
06/05/2005 10:11:32 AM
:-)
this one took me much more than usual three seconds (mostly because i expected the picture had not yet downloaded ;-) but as i try to vote on basis of photographic quality - well, sorry, this cannot score high

You know I'm just sitting here waiting for the page to load and after about two minutes I realized it has loaded. Made me laugh, if only at myself.

I tried to pull off something similar in a college course. Teacher failed me. I really thought it was clever. so much is at the mercy of popular opinion. 5

I'm sorry, this photo was just white space, it could have been made in an image editing program. It doesn't convey any decision in my opinion.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
06/01/2005 10:53:31 PM
I gave this a really low score because I don't feel taking shots like this will improve your photography, and it isn't interesting to the viewers (at least not me). Let me know if I missed something - it is just blank, right?

06/01/2005 10:23:46 PM
Challenge said to shoot a "decision." Doesn't meet challenge.

There is a painting like this in the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio. Except that the painting does have a 1/2 inch narrow band of color just inside the outer perimeter all the way around. But the rest of the painting is just like your submission. It is considered a work of art. So ......... nice shot.

Pure genius! I love this so much that I took I printed it and went to my local gallery to have it appraised. But they loved it so much that they stole the print (that I stole from you) and immediatly framed it and put it in the central showcase! But I must give you the credit for this amazing piece of art =). 10

i waited for it to load, but then i realized that it already had. a lot of artists feel like nobody understands their work. do you feel that way? because i dont understand your work...

While I appreciate the humor and thought, I think maybe your photo is a little over exposed;)

06/01/2005 06:02:34 PM
Hmmmm. A decision was definitely made in order to choose this as an entry, however the stark white of the shot, and the blown highlight in the upper left corner, combined with the lack of a thirds rule type of composition is very distracting. I do like what the image is trying to say, but feel that the crop could have been a bit more tightly (or widely) used to better bring out the nature of your message. I'm sorry, but this image receives a one from me.

06/01/2005 05:33:57 PM
Hard to relate to this. I got the message. But it leaves every option. Mind gets lost. Give me some focus.

lol this is really funny jive. I love it. I know people are going to flip about it and you will get a lot of 1's but I'm all up for a top 10. I think this is the only entry we ALL can understand.

This is a photographic competition and although I see the joke, you still score 1!

Personally, I would have perhaps done a 16:9 or 3:2 crop to accentuate the nuances evident in your subject matter.

:-P

excellent thought, but will it work out.

the subtle tones and the tonal range, not to mention the textbook use of composition merrits a 10

nice. not a 10 cuz too much cropping. I'll give an 8

I suppose you are doomed here, but speaking as an artist I find this to be a perfectly valid entry. If ever there was a challenge when a white box were appropriate, this would be it. As the maker of "self-portrait-as-raindrop", I have no choice but to give this a 10 :-)

good lighting, clear, nice cropping, original, good use of white space, nice decision!
