ohmygosh -- you can play this without a computer??? Just kidding!! :-) I wish there could have been someway or angle to take the shot without the food in the background.

It's nice to see people playing a game, but I think the shot would have much more impact if you'd taken it while the players were showing some reaction to an event. As is, they're pretty inscrutable (look like my in-laws during the New Year's marathon). The flourescent lighting and busy/ugly background aren't helping much, either. This might have worked better if you'd gotten up on a chair and shot down on the action, or gotten in closer.

The tough thing about digital with most cameras is that they want to keep everything in focus. A different angle that reduced the distracting background would have helped. You need to watch for things, like telephones, still out of peoples heads.

fits the theme, maybe a different angle would have been a little better, the table in the back with the food is a little distracting, along with the phones on the wall. The one looks like it is coming out of the guy's head!

nice capture clean and crsip

I like this photo it looks like a real game not staged perhaps you could have zoomed in on the table a little more

It is neat to see other games from different parts of the world.

I wanted to do Mahjongg for this challenge but I don't have a game set. I thought about purchasing one but it was too expensive for me... :( Good shot!

he he. I know this scene. I like the inclusion of the recently completed meal in the background :) Are the red phones for players to call their bankers for a loan? I would have cropped the poster? (top left). I wonder whether another camera angle would create a more compelling photograph ... maybe table level?

This is one of my favourite games. I don't think this photo really captures an interesting moment, though. When you watch chinese people playing mah jongg, it's usually so fast you can hardly tell what's going on. Maybe that's the way this game was, but I don't see it in this photo, and the guys seem to be very stiff and formal with each other, which doesn't suit the informal surroundings. It's well composed though.

The wall in the background is a little distracting. Another option might have been to try a 640x427 format to try to minimize this a little.

I like that you actually placed some people into the picture. It does seem a little washed out overall, maybe a tad of color adjustment would've helpde.

Interesting, cultural photograph.

The surroundings aren´t the best.

seems the atmosphere is more interesting to look at then the game to me. I want to know what the poster is in the back wall, what are the signs on the phones, and a pretty interesting table to be in such a sterile invironment.

Good creative idea. Background is distracting and would like to be closer. Still in all I like this, well done.
05/20/2002 12:42:00 PM
I think a tighter crop of the table with just the mens hands in view would've had a stronger impact.

I kinda like this shot even though its pretty basic. The majority of the shots seem to capture the games but not when they are played like this one does.

These guys look like professional players!

has a snapshot feel to it
