These are the "Twin Bridges" in Latham, New York. It's where the Northway crosses the Mohawk River. The vantage point is on a road, but part of the road I frequent as it is a connector road on the very nice Mohawk Hudson Bike path, a 50 mile or so rail trail (with some breaks, requiring connecting roads, such as here.

Here's the Satellite view:

Satellite View of Twin Bridges

Thanks everyone for an incredible week. The first few scores that came in were low, making me wonder, but then it climbed up and stayed above 7 all week!

Thanks again!

3/26/2007: new to site & just cruising..when I did my residency @AMCH, I think we (especially my husband, coming down from VT) drove those bridges 1000 times-what a great perspective! Really good shot!

I grew up in the Capitol district and recognized these bridges right away. You did them an incredible justice in this photograph. Belated congrats on this beautiful photo.

The question that I have is the red on the right hand bridge, was it enhanced in photoshop, or just an extraordinary sun shot?

Hmmm...interesting now that I look back and see the vote I gave this shot. I do like it very much. I know exactly where you were standing when taking this picture. I drive over the Twin Bridges quite frequently. I guess my problem was originally I was so captured by your perspective that I completely missed the triangles. All I saw was the humps. If I could take back my vote I would. I am glad you took a ribbon for this. Very nice work!

Wow, way to break a streak - hehehe - does this spell the end of the camera shaking :P! (It couldn't be a crisper shot if it tried).

Terrific image - but in doing this you lose your claim as many dpc'ers favourite photographer without a ribbon.

Why bridges win here so often is an interesting question; but you have done nothing to stop that precedence. Your designs, colors and balance all work to make a fine composition. Nice to see someone not bound by (tympani roll here) the gods-ordained "Rule Of Thirds!!!!" You are one I pick to ribbon.

05/17/2005 06:27:27 PM
Exceptionally well composed image. High technical quality. If there is any fault at all, it is that there is a large amount of black on the left side of the image and it has a red hue.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
05/17/2005 02:50:06 PM
At first glance, this picture seemed to have too much black in it, so I looked at it a bit longer. It grew on me and I do like the picture a lot now, it must the a combination of colour, shape and contrast. Funny isn't it, how you can change your mind like that?

Beautiful colors and backlighting. Nice framing, maybe a little too much black on the right side (which would mean trimming the left as well to keep centered composition). 7

Although I think that the triangles might not be "clearly shown as a key element" (to me, the arches and background colours form the key elements), I still consider this to be a great shot and worthy of a top 10 spot. Well done.

05/14/2005 06:04:38 AM
This will do well in Silhouette, I like this and I see where you are going with the triangle. I think other may not be as obliging. Anyway this is one of my top 10

One of the first wow pictures of this challenge-vote round for me, and it's very striking. I like the shifting color tones a lot, and the reddish tint on the right side is very evocative in terms of mood. I can't help but think that this would also have scored well with me in the upcoming silhouette challenge. If there were complaints to be made, I'd say the tuft of cloud and little flare on the upper left, and the reflection on the water surface, which could have been burned in some more. But alas, it's basic edit, and given the parameters, I'll still score this my first 10 of the challenge. Thanks.
