My model, on her way out to a dance competition where she was to perform her solo open jazz dance to the song "Bring Me To Life", shows up in this cool face makeup. I did not have my shot for the moods challenge, however, as soon as I saw the teardrops on her face I thought of the title and the result( following much griping from my moody model) is this shot.

I tried to achieve a softness to the focus by using a blur technique. I hope this does well :)

Something about the arm filling the bottom edge of the image makes this shot feel unbalanced.

This is so much more than just a person with a sad face. The make-up is lovely, the sad-puppy-dog face is priceless, the dark hair/clothes/background and careful lighting set the scene very well.

I really like the whole concept of the shot. Lighting is very good. Don't like the bottom arm posed the way it is. Makes it look long and chopped off.

Nice portrait....

This is nicely exposed, and the skin tone are great.

I find the fingers a little distracting, as they are lighter than the arm and face. Also the dirtry nails are a little annoying, as you've gone to so much trouble with the face makeup. How did this look withou the hand showing, just the head resting on her shoulder? It might not have workedso well.

Well done... 8

Great photography but clean nails would have made this better. Good makeup, good lightning.

great coposition, but it would have worked better without the fake tears and those extra lines in the makeup, the facial expression captures the melancholy well enough. 8

i'm sure many others will say this, but the drawings on her face are really neat. adds so much to the already dramatic feeling of the picture. girl has beautiful eyes, great idea to add some touches around them

A nice setup, nice makeup job, great expression.
My only wish is if I could see a better separation between her hair and the background, say with some back-lighting.
Also maybe clean those fingernails :)

silly thing but it bugged me - model should have cleaned her fingernails. Also might have been nicer with a lower depth of field so that her arm in the foreground wasn't in focus.

I love the light & dark of this photo. I'll bet this would be great in black & white too, but the skin tones are nice as is. Nice pose & composition. The makeup really adds to it a lot too. [10]

Great model, skin tones are too orange and the composition doesn't work for me. Great make-up and even lighting. Too much soft-focus though, I'd have liked the eyes to be sharper. The shoulder and arm take up too much attention though, although I can see you tried using it to frame the shot. Right hand works well.

Despite the makeup, she doesn't really emote the mood you are implying with the title for me. There's a hint of a smile on her face.
The arm, also, is more of a distraction in ithe placing.

Wonderful, the texture o the photo is like velvet. Only thing I would change is getting the white light caught in the eyes. 9.

Very nice on the face, the arm feels a little heavy in the frame though, maybe a slightly different pose.

Very nice image. Well photographed. I'm curious to find out if your lovely model is made up for a play or for your picture. Reminds me somewhat of the Comedy and Tragedy masks. I love the lighting, and the wonderful skin tones, and the beautiful brown eyes which command attention. I like the fact that the dark hair is lit just enough to seperate if from the black background. The only flaw with this image is not yours, but your models, and that is the dirty fingernails. I would however love to hear more about this image. <7>

Good job and nice effort! Light is good and I like the comp. To be real picky... there are some hair strands on her ear that could have been removed. Otherwise great!

too much of her left arm in the composition, cropping it out would have made it work for me
