Challenge: Abandoned Buildings (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Napa,California
Date: Apr 12, 2005
Aperture: F/6.3
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/800th sec.
Galleries: Urban, Landscape
Date Uploaded: Apr 12, 2005

This picture was shot in the Napa Valley in California on a slightly overcast day. I felt the weather worn textures of the silo and adjoining building made for an interesting shot.

This shot has wonderful depth, color, contrast, and detail. Also, I like the composition quite a bit, aside from the fact that the cloud is cut off.

curious...looked like something taken out of background (blur at left of "horizon" area)...if so, what was it?

Great composition! The cloud there balances things very nicely.

nice photo, perfect placement of the sky, I do see where the skyline/horizon was edited...

Wow...nicest shot ive seen yet. This image is very sharp, and the cloud in the image looks awesome! It really makes the shot, the green grass also really brings out the photo...nice shot!

Good timing in getting the cloud where it is.

I think the color saturation of the sky, grass and roofs distract from the composition, which is really nice.

This almost looks painted or surreal - beautiful colors, sky, & content... I'm sure that your other work contains these eye-catching elements. I scored you an 8, but some of the detraction was how "perfect" it was - it's almost unnatural in apperance - also it looks a little skewed to the left (at the top). It is a VERY beautiful shot - well done & congrats. There just seems to be "something" - and I'm still not sure what it is - that keeps me from rating it higher. (Obviously, still well above average in a category with over 400 shots to rate (and I'm pretty conservative!), so please don't take my comments the wrong way).

I like this very much. Soft areas of color, a well positioned cloud; it could very well be a painting.

Overall nice shot. I think a little over processed for my taste.

It's always nice when you get a cloud to cooperate. The only thing I don't like is the grass, where it meets the horizon is very artificial looking. Still a nicely composed shot.

Feels like the salt of the earth.Tiny nit - I'd have cropped a bit further away from the buildings on the bottom and the right. Still I love the balance of the buildings and the fluffy cloud.

You know, I bet you waited hours for the perfect cloud to arrive and complete this composition. This almost looks too real, like I'm right there. Absolutely my favorite, to this point in voting. 10!

A composition that makes one smile!
What I don't like here is the posterisation in the clouds and the noise in the sky.
The composition is spot-on in my opinion apart from the fact that you cut a small portion off the cloud and that the picture is not 100% level, it seems. I'd have rotated it slightly.
