Were you topless when you took this photo?
05/20/2002 08:31:00 PM
yeah i would have used a lick of krazy glue to keep the cards from moving. marvelous.

Wow- you're good. Actually, it was a piece of clear plexiglas stretched across two chairs. I built the tower on the plexiglas and wiggled under it to get the shot. I tried it with several different lighting options, but nothing seemed to do it for me until I put the flash on. The room was quite dark when I finally got it right. It took WAY more time to arrange the cards than it did to actually shoot it (they kept falling). The trick was to get the top of the pyramid while still getting the edges of the bottom cards. Thanks for your interest.

Details: Can you guess how I did this?

tungsten back or top-down lighting + iso 50 or 100 + flash + macro = dark background, even if the aperture was smaller. i just tried that the other night with a ram chip i have hanging on my ceiling light's string.

you have a glass coffee table that you probably spent 30 minutes cleaning before taking the shot.

if you're hardcore like me, you were lying under the table trying not to bump the cards out of position in order to - literally - take the shot upside down.

Interesting idea. I wish the lighting were a little more even. I can see the flat cards really well, but all the A-frames are darker -- especially the portion of the 9H in the upper right corner that's completely blacked out..

Very sharp! -NBT

This was a great idea.

nice

Are you trying to break through the glass ceiling? Good Crisp Focus
How do you get the Background so black and leave the foreground so crisp and white?
05/17/2002 12:27:00 AM
This is a great idea. The lighting, focus, and angle of the shot are great!
05/16/2002 10:59:00 PM
the shadowing at the top of the photo takes away from the overall photo.
05/16/2002 03:07:00 AM
Great composition!
05/16/2002 01:12:00 AM
Simple and convincing.

Very nice, this is one of my top 5.

brilliant

A very clever idea that worked, for me. Clever lighting which kept the background black and developed mystique. I wish I had thought of it, but I didn't
05/15/2002 12:12:00 PM
Good perspective on this shot, I like it.
05/14/2002 08:28:00 PM
if it was impossible, this picture would be fake. poo poo....seriously though i would have liked it more if you had gotten the effect of the whole thing balancing on the tiny point at the bottom
05/14/2002 08:25:00 PM
how can it be? it's IMPOSSIBLE! is this fake? Totally kidding. great pic :)
05/14/2002 05:46:00 PM
Leaves me wondering how you did it. Nice detail and depth of field.
05/14/2002 04:59:00 PM
great perspective
05/14/2002 02:09:00 PM
Why's the top right corner blocked off? Seems like it could be another card, but why? Or part of a table? Neat idea. Good lighting.

Nicely executed! Photo 10 Creativity 10 Upsidedown 10 total 10 (you really nailed this one!)
05/14/2002 01:22:00 PM
Wow. Great concept. Nice execution. Perhaps add a dim light to fill the bottom story.
05/14/2002 11:04:00 AM
Love the lighting technique!
Angle is great, and the slightly offset composition is a winner.
Would love to hear how you set this one up, too.
Great Job.
05/13/2002 08:07:00 PM
Great idea, but the shadow at the top and more-so the top right is distracting.
05/13/2002 07:22:00 PM
Great idea, great shot. Clear as a bell. Excellent lighting.
05/13/2002 06:01:00 PM
well.. ok
05/13/2002 04:39:00 PM
not what we are looking for....are we
05/13/2002 04:30:00 PM
This is a nice shot! I like the composition and framing quite a bit. I suppose that this particular shot was hard to light. I would love to see some more light in the cards at the bottom of the 'stack'... good job!
05/13/2002 02:10:00 PM
Yes, yes! good job, and a good photograph. On topic!
Nice work.
05/13/2002 08:12:00 AM
What a tight photo!
05/13/2002 02:16:00 AM
Great idea, and I really like the way you lit this.
