Thanks everyone for the kind words, it's really appreciated. I'm quite overwhelmed with this fifth place. On behalf of my mom and myself, thank you!

That is so difficult to cope with, I share that pain. My Mum died before her mum and I know how this destroyed my Nan inside and almost shook her faith. This is also a difficult photo to take and it comes across genuinely. Brave stuff and good use of DOF.

Very evocative. Like the blue tinge also.

Hard to tell which is which. Did her mother or daughter die? Great emotion captured.

This is one of the most meaningful entries sofar...some may say it's staged but a mother's loss is a constant pain and it only takes so little to produce those tears, healing is long and slow, only consolation are the good moments with that loved one that has passed.....please give this mother a warm hug from me, a dear friend is in the exact same situation and I try my best to be there for her and listen... all good wishes from Gurry

Of the tiny handfull of images in this challenge that genuinely examine pain as an emotion, rather than just a sensation, this is clearly the best. Loss, grief, bewilderment and deep, unreachable pain. A very strong, unequivocal photograph, even without the heart-wrenching title. 10.

Beautiful shot. Nicely framed. Grief seems real, not contrived. One of my favorites in this challenge.

This is the "realest" of all the pain I have seen here. It has "flaws" as an image, but I don't care. 10.

Creative title with your picture. The combination of both is good (your specific title and image). The mother or grave by itself would not be a very strong image, but this works. Nice job.

This is a very well done portrait. Rich in detail and with a strong center of attention. The color in your photo is perfect and the composition is very good.

It's a good shot, perhaps a bit more stunning if you had put a bit more clarity in that tear. I love the color of her eyes.

This is a touching photo. Good job. But that doesn't seem right. My prayers are with the model.
