What an incredible experience, to have an image selected by Kodak to one of their Pictures of the Day.

We knew as soon as we got the word that we would make the trip to Times Square to see it live, and we are so glad that we did. While we hope this isn't a once-in-a-lifetime event, we did want to mark the occaision, and it was everso worth it!

In addition to seeing themselves on Times Square, the kids got to eat at a great Irish pub, Rosie O'Grady's, as well as see the city from the top of the Empire State Building!

About this Image I shot this using my 6.5" tripod, setup against a building across from the Kodak marquee. As I was shooting portrait with had my 420 flash attached, I had to use my camera bag to keep the whole thing from tipping over.

I am truly amazed that this image came to be, considering the cycle of the slideshow, that the kids were hungry and cold, and that the sidewalk was full of people (and I must say, "Thanks" to all the patient New Yorkers who paused while I went for my shots!).

For those who have not yet experienced this, I can only urge you to go to www.kodak.com and check out the submission process, as well as to browse through their archives to see what types of images they like to show. To see your image and your name up there on that huge billboard is just over the top!

Kodak's presentation is really cool. They have about 15 images in a slideshow, with each image getting 3-4 seconds. Then, the sign starts flashing, announcing 'Kodak Picture of the Day'. Your image comes zooming out from nowhere to take up the whole sign, then it fades to your name. Yeah, it's worth taking a day off, taking the kids out of school, and making the trip!

I'll have more images when I get home; let's just say that all those yellow taxis gave me plenty to satisfy my need to take tilted, blurry images and call them art...

Here's the original submission to Kodak:

Aw man, I wish I'd known! I go into the city relatively often and would've loved to have gone to see your photo up in Times Square! I've submitted a photo, or two, of mine trying to get up there so I think it's awesome that someone I sort of know made it :) Good for you!

Skip! Congrats! It was such a pleasure meeting you in Philly yesterday. Sorry about the gray day and lack of time! Hope you enjoyed seeing your name in lights on Broadway and it looks and sounds like you and the family had a great time. Come back soon and bring some sun with you! LOL! Congrats again on your Kodak POTD! RoB

Wow! How cool is this! What a beautiful family! What a beautiful photo! Do y'all get the feeling that the world might just be a better place since y'all are in it!

(I want you to know that I have just used more exclamation points than I used in all of 2004. Y'all deserve every one of them! And those are the first y'alls of my entire life.)

Bravo, Skip! It is nice to see the good souls of this world win :-)
May there be many more amazing photos in your future!
