Great perspective and composition here. Is that the texture of the wall behind him - ah, no, it's a beard! The hot spots on the tuning knobs are a little distracting, but I love the tonal range. Really nice shot.

I had this on a 9 in the challenge. I was going through your portfolio and I appreciate this one even more now. I think it's one of the images that keep getting better and better. Excellent work.

Congrats on such a beautiful shot.
Was on my list of best of the bunch and still is.
Clone out the yellow/Red "thing" under the wristband, and get this in the hands of some guitar shops to adorn their walls.

What a superlative study of light & mood. Great tone & detail.
Wow seems such an insignificant word here.
Added to my favorites and in my pick of the top ten best. ((10))

oh, how much fun was this!!! you might consider ever so slightly burning in the blowouts, as they tend to pull the eye away from the other more interesting details that you have caught. thanks for sharing, good luck in the challenge!

Hi mon Cheri,

I had done my voting and I had no clue what photograph could possibly be yours. :)
So what to do? Pbase! :) I had given this an 8 before I checked and I am not going to change it. O :-)

Great photo, it has such strong composition and lighting. The guitar leads me trough the frame and the hands show me what's going on. The beard sheds some light on the character that is playing, it leaves something to the fantasy of the viewer. That way the viewer can decice for himself if this is a country, heavy-metal, bluess, jazz or pop player. Fits everyones views.
I like the darkness in the background and on the face of the guitar body, it helps to direct the eye to the more important parts: the hands and the long bit supporting the strings. Shame about the highlight blowout of the string tensioners, but you'd need another camera and a lot of underexposure with shadow correction to get any detail back. It distracts a little, but should be accepted as the limitation of photography.

I must say, it sure is one of the best I've seen from you in 2004 and I hope it does well. Let's rock in 2005!
See ya!

I like the dark sombre mood of this image...works very well with the subject matter.

Like the fact that you zoomed in on the guitar and hand movement rather than the entire person. The image is a litte darker than I would like as some of the detail of the guitar is lost. Very nice composition

I like this one. I like how you can tell a lot about the person just by the hands.
