I live in the high desert, so there aren't a whole lot of fancy bridges here. This is the fanciest I could find:on my daughter's cello. It proved to be extremely difficult to get the right lighting on the strings, backlight the bridge itself, and still have the water sharp and clear and visible. Still learning!
(By the way, I was constantly wiping water off the cello after each shot, just in case you know about instruments and the image made you nervous!).

Greetings from the Critique Club, David :)

Composition: Good. I like the angle you used. There is some wasted space in the upper right corner. It's mostly black and the strings seem to be some kind of visual "barrier" which keep your eyes in the lower left corner, where the light is. There are two brighter spots under the strings in the black area, but I can't really see what they are (it's not the water). That's a bit distracting. Either add more light to the black area or remove these spots. I also would like to see the full shape of this backward "S" formed hole (unfortunately I don't know the correct English term).

Lighting: Like others in the comments said: Gorgeous. I like the mix of light and shadow very much. Good job!

Focus: The focus is good for my taste. The narrow aperture creates a sufficient DOF.

Challenge: In my opinion adding the water was not necessary. But I understand the play of words you wanted to achieve. Anyway, personally I think it's a bit too much "staged" and a more natural approach to the nice forms of the cello would be better.

Creativity: A unique take on the challenge! Good idea!

Why would anyone give this photo a 1. This was (IMHO) one of the best photos in the race. You know, bridge isn't always something you can drive over. This photo reminded me of the movie "The red violin", a fantastic movie, btw. :)

Don't worry, I made sure the cello was okay!

Excellent! I love that you didn't just go out and photograph a bridge structure (like I did). Very creative. A few people had similar ideas this week but this is by far the best. This is my favorite pic for this challenge this week. I like the lighting that you have used in this shot and how the photograph fades to black in the upper right corner. With that being said, I also am appreciative that you well lit the bridge so that it is evenly lit. After all, it is the main subject here. Good luck with the challenge.

At least it's beading up -- don't want to ruin an instrument for a photo.

Great composition. A little bright on the upper left parts, but otherwise, very nicely done.

I actually would have liked this a lot better without the water, but still nice lighting and composure.

Gorgeous use of lighting. Great angle. Nice composition. Wish you hadn't put "(cello bridge)" as part of the title... but I don't take off points for that.. just saying so.

I know cellists who'd murder you if you did that to their instrument! Great idea - execution gives 9/10 - I think the dynamic range is too great here, but only just. Highlights are flaring a little, no?
