I found this abandoned building some time ago, and this was the possibility to take some photos there.

Thanks to my Veronique, of course, it was so cold and she had to pose in just a sweater. Luckily I wasn't expecting a happy smile from her for this photo. :)

At a first , quick glance, I wasn't as impressed with this as I should have been.

You've done an excellent job with light control, DoF and compostion so the viewer's eye is directed precisely where it should be. Soft focus and darker hues prevent the attention from wandering out of the image. There's a lot of nice detail so your audience can spend time in the surroundings, but the attention always goes back to the model's face.

In fact, if I had a nit to pick, it would be the model's expression. Her body language suggests depression, but her face doen't, as much. Perhaps it just me. All the same, the image works nicely.

Kudos

You bet I do, of course. :) That depressive look was just acting...
And she likes to get ribbons too.

Thank you for taking this picture. It really speaks to me. And that was one of my resolutions, too.

Thank you for taking this picture! I have a (much younger) 22yr old student/friend
who is beautiful inside and out, who once in a while wrongly sees herself like this, and not
like wildflowers, as she deserves. Seeing your picture will say to her the 1,000 words which I cannot.
I wish I could return this favor

I like the 'post industrial' feeling of this shot... The whole world has decayed, and she's left staring at us, wondering why it all went wrong... Oh, that's why she's depressed!

Neat shot.. 8

The gloomy feel and blue/grey/green cast here is wonderfully effective. Congratulations (okay so I just stumbled accross your portfolio during voting and saw your outtake for this shot - both are brilliant - apologies for thinking this might be Heida - she has a shot of a similar looking model in her port - not that being confused with Heida can really be seen as a negative :P) on what is probably the best image in this challenge.

Once again, great work! 10.

IMO a very good job! I like the mood of the picture and the topic of the resolution. I like the use of coloring it the picture and think you did a great job. Lighting is good along with the focus. The pillar/column and subject has a crisp focus while the background is blending out, great DOF. Great Job [9].

Very moody. I especially like how the column divides the photo into two parts, separating the model from the bulk of the photo; ugly though it may be, it beats isolation. Very well done!

I hope you become less depressive too. However, don't stop letting that feeling out creatively, cause it's beautiful. The setting, composition, model, lighting, and processing are all beautiful. 10

I like your choice of background and color cast to create the "depressed" feeling in your photo. Very nice.

This photo is so complete. Everything seems to work together. The cold toning, the mess in the background, the clothes of the subject, the pose, the look on the face and the color toning. Yes, it breathes depression.
Excellent job, one of two 10's in this challenge.

The calibre of the picture itself obviously is high. though for me, if i look at it without the title, the connection to the challenge, while still there, is more elusive. the "Not" part of the title is much less evident in the photo itself. 8. 10 if I felt a clearer photographic connection to the challenge. Very good work, as always. my only real complaint is that you don't submit more often! I can't get tired of looking at these.

Nice picture, but i wouldn't think of depression had i not seen the title... Composition-wise, i would move the camera slightly to the left. The lady should be the center [not literally in the center] of the composition, and she is not.

Very interesting idea, I like the tones and subject matter. Well rendered...except for the pillar the person is leaning on....for me if something that should be horizontal or vertical isn't....that is all I see.

Great dark image. I love the minimalist use of color and the dark tones. Also that the woman's face and hand are the brightest things in this image.

I love this photo, it portrays what you are trying to convey well. Not sure about the girls pose though, I think if she was looking down or had her eyes closed it would help with the overall sadness.

This is a very appealing image. The colors & dof (boken) easily pull me to the subject. For me this has a more hopeful than depresive quality. Great job on this most interesting submisson. Good luck and cheer up this new year. ;-)

she still looks kinda depressed - i hope you took this on dec31 and not jan1 ;)

very expressive style of image.. all the burning really helps bring out focus to the left. great choice of location, as well.

Wow this is one of the best in the challenge. You always take such excellent photos.

I love the pose and soft feel, the pose gives a seductive sexy feel. The colors work well with the softness, it blends the whole photo together. The border also works great with this. I can never get my borders to work.

The only thing I can nit pick at is the definition between the legs and th concrete post. But that may be my monitor.

This is a great photo I am sure it will be in the top ten. 10
