and there i was saying that this was one of my all time favorite photos on the site...when it wasn't even in my favorites! I know it was at one time (or two), I've just had to refill my favorites so many times at this point...back again!

You have the amazing ability to give your photos a very timeless look. This one is amazing. It looks like it could have been taken decades ago or yesterday. I love all of your black and whites. You have talent, keep shooting!

I scored this one high. Very emotive and memorable photo. Great work. It's a shame it didn't place higher.

I also wonder... this checkered "suitcase"/bag (which dates a picture which might othrwise have been taken in 1940) it is ubiquitous in Eastern Europe , it's almost a cultural symbol of sorts, so I wonder if this article found its way into UK, Scotland etc....

Great shot!

hunh?? what the heck? This shot placed 64 places too low. i think this proves the voting system is whacky. It's that or I have bad taste...
Oh, gawd I hope I don't have bad taste.

I'm astounded this didn't rank higher. At least it got 31x10, which is more tens than almost any other!

Again, great photo, one of my favourites from the competition.

What a pair of eyes. This looks like something from the 1930s. Astounding and understated shot. Bumping from an 8 to a 10.

I love everything about this. It's one of my few 10s. The expression really is a good capture, but the rest of it tells a story too. I wonder where she is, where she's going, and why. Nice.

I remember this one and have always loved it. She looks like someone out of the 20's. I really like the glare she has. She seems determined about something. Photography at it's best here.

This is an incredibly good journalistic shot! I think I remember seeing it before (?) but don't remember where or who's it is. I just love this shot. I love her look and I love how her eyes stand out so well. Choosing b&w was a choice. The texture in the wall and the pattern in the floor are really nice. The bags are a tiny bit distracting (because of the plaid, I think) but I wouldn't change anything about this. Such a captivating shot. Super. - 10 -

Cristi, this is one of the most beautiful photos I have seen in 2004 and I think it also qualifies for my personal top 100 ever. I thougth that I had it as a favourite, but couldn't find it anymore. Took me a lot of Googling to find out what the deal was. :)

I don't know what it is, but anytime I look at this I come out at the eyes, always the eyes. They draw me in, they look like they tell a story. Her pose enhances that, there is something she is thinking about....

The grey tone works very well with this.

This image is a ten in so many ways. Tthe facial expression couldnt be more perfect if it was painted on. The contrast between the almost 'Dickensesque' subject and the modern plastic chairs and bags is amazingly effective. One of the better candid images I have come across. Straight into my favourites.
