it was challenging to manually focus-stack the 5 photos i used for this long-legged fly .. who's about the size of a mosquito..
in the last couple of years i've used Luminar Neo for stacking and its done a great job .. but if i move the slightest bit or the insect moves then Luminar struggles .. which it did with these photos ..
when you're taking the photos so close up you literally cant breathe because that causes movement .. and i was standing up for these photos which creates an added difficulty .. if i'm down in the grass its so much easier ..
wasnt keen on the black spots on the leaf .. but getting rid of them was more work than i was willing to take on ..
anyway .. not sure how this will go as there have been some amazing insects entered lately .. but i'm happy i got to shoot this little guy .. :)
after voting .. many many thanks for your comments .. and votes .. the high ones that is .. lol .. !! ..
but really comments are my bread and butter .. if that makes sense ..❤️

Congratulations, Roz. Superb photo. If I have ever seen one of these tiny little insects I've missed recognizing it. I probably just took it for a mozzie. The colours are stunning though, so I probably haven't seen one at all.
Really appreciate the detailed notes on this one, Roz. :-) Very helpful. I have yet to try my hand at focus stacking--I think I lack the patience to do it properly. But for what it's worth, I think the little black dots actually help give the DOF a sense of textural anchoring that I think I would miss if you had removed them. I don't find them distracting in the least. Wonderful composition, as usual. Congrats!
