 Oh wow—I feel honored to have received the Blue Ribbon from you all.

It has been a very emotional week, and I am still processing everything. First, the sad news that Beata is no longer with us.
That same week, a close friend of mine, Claudia, passed away from cancer. She had only learned of her serious illness at the beginning of May.

Amidst it all, there are glimmers of light. Today—rollover day—is my birthday. Some dear friends will be visiting, and we will raise a glass: to Beata, to Claudia, and to life.

Had a feeling this one belonged to you, Barbara. Didn't want to say anything in the voting since I wasn't sure. But Beata used to speak glowingly of your work, and I know she'd be honored by this tribute. :-)

Even without the title, this would be among my challenge favorites. A very effective and distinctive use of light and shadow for dramatic effect.
