A friend told me about a really cool rookery. I was able to go just two times, and it was incredible! This shot was minimally edited -- just some contrast and straightening and cropping. The osprey was rather upset when the egret got too close.

I was really looking forward to going back again, and then he called me.

"They're gone"

"??"

"The birds are gone".

There was an eagle that kept harassing them, and they got tired of it and completely abandoned the rookery and the nests they were building. I'm really hoping there were no eggs yet. :(

What Roz and Bob said. This loaded and I thought, "Only Wendy or Larry could capture this in a single exposure. I bet this isn't even Extended Editing."

Of course we don't know if this happened quite as it appears, but it's great photography and a good story.

Bird photographing is so frustrating and yet so rewarding. You have caught a wonderful moment here. Yes the birds are turning away from you and the greenery snuck in at an odd angle, but still lovely.
