Yes. It was hit. I am pretty sure the ball was already hit and is moving away from him at this moment. I was at 10 fps, which is still not fast enough to know for sure. My camera can do 30 fps but the rolling shutter makes the ball and bat distorted.
Fantastic action shot. It feels like you were right there on the field. 1/4000 shutter speed! Wow.
With newer cameras and denoise software I worry less about high ISO and just speed up the shutter speed! A sunny day helps as well. I think the slight blur on the ball is DOF and not shutter speed, but could be a little of both as the ball is probably moving 80-90 mph off the bat.
