"The male Wandering Percher (Diplacodes bipunctata) is a small, common Australian dragonfly characterized by its vibrant red eyes, face, thorax, and abdomen, often adorned with distinct black heart-shaped markings on each abdominal segment. They are frequently seen perching on twigs or grass near still water.

Key Characteristics of Male Wandering Percher:
Coloration: Mature males are bright orange-red or crimson. Young males (teneral) are often yellow-brown before maturing.

Markings: A key identifier is the series of black marks along the top of the abdomen, differentiating them from the all-red Scarlet Percher (D. haematodes).

Wings: Clear/colourless, except for a reddish-brown mark at the base of the hindwing.

Size: Small, with a wingspan of approximately 50-60 mm.
Behavior: They are known as "perchers," often waiting on top of grass stems or twigs in the sun and flying in quick, short bursts.

Habitat: Common in open, sunny areas, often found near ponds, swamps, and sluggish streams, but can wander far from water.

These dragonflies are highly adaptive and are often among the first to colonize new or polluted water bodies."

Best in show 🫶🏻 Such a sharp image, and I love the frosted look of the wings. The creamy bokeh is right where it needs to be. Congratulations 🤍
