We were lucky to happen to be in Java during Waisak, or Buddha's birthday, the biggest Buddhist celebration of the year. There it is organized on the grounds of Borobudur, the world's biggest Buddhist temple (you can see it in the distance). Tens of thousands of people dressed in white gather for prayers and meditation, and we were among them.(had to buy white pants on the market to blend in). The ceremony ends with a massive floating paper lanterns release. It is a spectacular, unforgettable sight. In the hindsight, I could (and perhaps should've) combine this photo with a photo or two of flying lanterns, taking advantage of the extended rules, would've been a more striking image ). Alas, didn't occur to me in the haste of travel.

What a lovely emotional scent. the leading lines of the light lead to the large template in the distance. There is a bit of extra noise in the upper sky. As a minor nit there is some odd clouds/haloing on either side of the temple that could be cloned out if you are into that type of post processing.

Remind me: Which issue of National Geographic was this on again?

Congrats. Stunning capture.
