Very large pine tree came down across our driveway on this last storm. We received 14" of wet snow ... too much weight for many trees on our property. This one kept us from getting out until I could get it cut up and moved (took a day of chainsawing). We lost power Monday morning at 7am ... got power back Friday night at 6pm. Fun! Not.

Went back and forth on the blue color cast. It was much stronger in the original. Could have gone total B&W but decided to leave some blue cast in place. Kind of symbolizes the cold and the "End" of this tree.

The rest of the story.

I hope you had a fireplace to keep warm during the power outage or maybe a generator? People in Florida have generators due to all the hurricanes. This drone shot really says it all! Congrats!!

Awesome shot! It's the footprints that make it. Makes the eye wander around and gives a sense of size. Congrats on the blue!!

That's a hell of a scene, Barry, and well-rendered to boot, not an easy task. The hint of blue is perfect, it would have been much worse without it. BTW, check out my camera list while you're at it. I'll wait for your PM :-)

its an awesome photo for the challenge btw .. and even more so after reading your backstory ..
and wow .. going without power for over five days .. not great ..
we used to lose power a lot where i live .. and when there was a storm we'd fill up bottles and the bath with water just in case .. as when we lost power we dont have anything .. we have a tank for water and a pump that pumps the water into the house .. so when the power goes out ... no water .
fortunately the power doesnt go out as much these days ..
in voting i actually thought the tracks were from some animal .. but now reading your notes i'm thinking it was you going backwards and forwards cutting that tree up .. hope you had stocked up on supplies before the tree came down ..
a positive is good wood the fire tho .. :)

Thanks Roz! The tracks around the tree are us walking up and down the driveway to check out the road and other damage, etc. The tracks in the field are from my son, being smart, and not walking underneath the OTHER large pine trees still carrying snow weight in the driveway. :-)

As for the wood, unfortunately, it's a pine tree and not good for much except for sticky sap and a pain to cut up (which we did the day after this photo). Can't burn it in the fireplace (creosote buildup concerns in the flue).

Thanks! We do have a generator that can keep some basics running (well pump for water, a few outlets, the fridge and freezer). It's bearable, but not pleasant - however, it's survivable and we're grateful for it. :-)

this is a wonderful image .. with so much going on ..
definitely the end of life for that tree on the ground .. and in coming down its created two ends of the fence .. i'm loving the winter snowy landscape seen from above and the footsteps in the snow .. :)

Took me a minute to get the perspective right.
