Challenge: Outside Looking in III (Standard Editing)
Camera: Nikon D7000
Lens: Lensbaby Sweet 35 Optic
Date: Jan 9, 2021
Aperture: F2.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/13
Date Uploaded: Jan 9, 2021

I started experimenting for the challenge by looking into a wine bottle from the top and then got the idea to attach a small light to the bottom and deliberately take an out-of-focus image to get a similar shape as the famous cosmic black hole picture published April 2019.

So it meets the challenge at least in two different ways.

Not sure if such an abstract image will go down well, but I like it anyway.

Post processing:
1) change to a red hue, with shadows more saturated then highlights (with split toning)
2) clean up some dust spots

I'm not an Abstract kinda girl, sooo... if an Abstract is going to appeal to me, then it has to be lovely on its own... something that REALLY draws me in.

This one... the bright white center turned me off that I really didn't look at the rest of it. It was too blown to recover from IN MY MIND.

Others may love this.

I'm just weird about abstracts.

i didnt vote on this challenge .. but if i had i would probably have given it a 5 or a 6 ..
i love the colours and the blur and the intensity .. but without the title i really dont know what's going on ..
when i view a photo in a challenge .. unless its really obvious that it doesnt satisfy the challenge .. i'm more inclined to give the photographer the benefit of the doubt .. because it might be that i am missing something that could be obvious to other ppl .. and of course to the photographer .. so in many cases i will assume it does meet the challenge ..
you really got hammered .. and i'm glad you're not upset by that .. but wanting to know why .. (i'm coming from the thread you put in btw .. ) ..
these days if a photo i enter does really badly .. which is relative of course .. like you, i want to know why .. not so that i change my style or whatever .. but to understand where other ppl are coming from ..
in the past a bad reception would have had a bad effect on me .. i'm so glad it doesnt anymore .. !! .. ;)

Never over estimate voters.

The connection to the theme wasn’t obvious, so I suspect a bunch of low DNMC votes. What it was, wasn’t obvious. Voters seem to prefer color palettes toward the blue end of the spectrum, rather than reds and oranges (my subjective conclusion, not based on statistical analysis.) As stated elsewhere, blur without some focused element to rest the eye is difficult for voters.

I gave it a 3, because of some of the notions above. I couldn’t figure out what it was that was inside, and what it was inside of.

If you’re interested in black holes, you might like a book titled Black Hole Survival Guide by Janna Levin.

OK, gave it a 4. I don’t mind abstracts, but they have to be beautiful. Your composition is fine, you placed the center of interest a little off center, but it is an overexposed white blob that you are calling attention to. The rings are colorful, but they aren’t particularly attractive, kinda harsh and glaring. It does meet the challenge IMO. Keep experimenting, you’ll get a great one.
