thank you. It’s a challenge and you have to be willing to get wet! But it’s fun.

Congrats on the frontpage finish!
I know how much effort it takes to create a shot like this - that\'s why I never tried it...

And considering the low votes:
You better get used to it. There are several voters who use the complete range of voting possibilities from 1-10. But I try to tell me that this isn\'t bad as long as they do it on all entries - it has an effect on the average score but not that much on the ranking (at least that is my way to cope with low votes)

As I said, I'm pretty new to the site. Just joined last year. The low scores don't bother me as much as bewilder me. I shoot because I like the creativity and the themes enable me to be creative and have a variety in my photography. What I don't understand is what a low score is based on. As far as I can tell there isn't any judging criteria on the site. What is the criteria for giving a 1? In my opinion, no photo deserves a 1 - if there is no criteria to give that score. I wonder if anyone has ever considered creating judging criteria so that scores are based on something concrete. Just a thought. Not so much for my photo but when I see blue ribbon winners that were scored with a 1, I wonder what the low score was based on.

i've heard on the grapevine that sometimes a 1 is given by mistake by someone voting on their phone or something .. so that they go to give a 1 and a 0 but only the 1 gets recorded .. i feel that they should remove that possibility and start the voting off at 2 .. :)

The rim of the glass is indeed slightly distracting but it's a super image. Congrats on the HM.

Thank you Irene

i dont understand the low votes you have .. as this totally fits the challenge .. and is a fantastic image ..
it can be very offputting and disheartening in these challenges when something of this calibre is seen as worthy of a vote of 2, 3, 4 or even 5 ..
i spose in a few days, a week or a month . this will wont even matter and you will have something awesome under your belt .. a photo that totally kicked every single goal .. :)
.

Thanks Roz. I’m fairly new to DP but I also don’t get someone voting a 1 or 2 or 3 for a photo. This type of photography takes hours with sometimeS hundreds of shots before you get one with the action frozen and in focus. I appreciate your recognizing that. I’ve seen many blue ribbon winners with very low scores along with 10’s. Shouldn’t be such a wide range. Anyway. Sorry for going on.

for goodness sake dont apologize .. i feel that the low votes like you have received put ppl off even being here .. especially when they are for such a fantastic photo .. and i can believe it would take many shots to get one that worked .. i have never attempted something like this but understand how much energy you would have to put into it ..

i will apologize for the ppl who are so harsh on this site ... and just know its not just you who receive these harsh votes .. some of the most amazing images i have ever seen get them too ..
and i know that we all have different tastes in photos etc .. but that hardly accounts for the thrashing ppl get when they enter something that in most ppl's books would be worthy of a WOW .. xx

i struggle with this 'situation' as well .. but have to tell myself that it is what it is ... and i tell myself that over and over again .. not just once .. !! ..
there are some wonderful positives being in this site though .. i have taken photos i would never have taken if i wasnt entering the challenges .. and have met some wonderful ppl .. and become a much better photographer ... also in getting some bad 'feedback' i will hopefully develop a thicker skin .. !! .. xx

I like the action on this shot. Nice job on freezing it.

Something about barely seeing the edge of the glass, but still seeing it, is detracting from this image for me. It makes me feel like I'm seeing some of the 'behind the scenes' and pulls me back into reality.
