This challenge was way out of my comfort zone. I mentioned in a thread that my brand is bright... soft in living color. But I LOVE really skilled low key photography, and I really WANT to learn how to do it well - like some of the breathtaking images in this challenge! I will practice and get better.

I’m thankful for the comments. I particularly appreciate Wendy’s because it helped me see that my image doesn’t suck... it’s just not right for low key! I agree and appreciate the encouragement on the image itself. THANK YOU!

This is the first time ever in all the challenges I’ve entered that my score started out in the 5.6 range, hovered at 5.8 all week, then climbed up well over 6 in the last 2 days! Made me happy :)

I agree with Wendy... and I tried to convey that in my comment... without saying it right out, since some entrants don't want it "straight up" in the comments. :D

It's a fabulous shot and that should be proven by the high score on what some thought was a DNMC.

It's beautiful, as usual from you, Sandy!

Such a beautiful dog portrait, you are a master at this. I think the back lighting took it out of low key, but still a stunning image. I would like to know your lighting system. I generally use only natural light because I really don̢۪t have a handle on using strobes.

I agree with Anita, you are one of the best animal photographers on this site, and this photo displays your remarkable talent once again! Good job Sandy!

One of my two favorites for the challenge - everything is just right here for me (color, focus, lighting, expression). Voted days ago . . . back to comment on a few.

What a perfect portrait (and title... ha!)

I'm not fond of the border for this challenge topic since it brings more light into the image, but golly! What a beautiful pet portrait!

I'm confused on this one. I hate to say it, but it's not my definition of low key.

It's hard to say it, because this is so incredibly beautifully done.

So I looked up 6-7 other places for low key definition. Mostly dark, heavy shadows, moody, dramatic.

I guess to me it would have been more low key if you hadn't lit him so completely. If the shadows would have been left to fall into dark.

And yet I hesitate to vote on this, because I could be wrong.

It should be a 9 for beauty, but it's a 6 for low key. (I should have just voted without leaving a comment, I think!)
