This is the magnificent, magical, marvelous (and very bendy) Mercy Malick with her fluffy and adorable kitty Montezuma. In addition to being absurdly flexible and funny as hell heck, Mercy is a singer, actor, and artist. And impossibly nice. And gorgeous. Her 2 cats (the other is The People, not in this shot) are awesome characters as well.
Shooting with cats is always a challenge. They do everything you want when you're not looking, and refuse to perform when you want them to. Additionally, lighting is tricky because you can't use strobes: nothing with send a cat under the bed faster than the flash from strobes. So I used these little LEDs, which work great but aren't the brightest. And had the added inconveniences of spooking Monte - who showed extreme interest in them until I picked up my camera. We just couldn't get him close to Mercy's foot. We even dangled a Q-tip (his absolute favorite toy guaranteed to make him play) between her toes, but he was more interested in seeking safe haven from Joe - Mercy's boyfriend.
This was the ONE shot where he did go near her foot. I think it worked out just fine.

has a very Johanna feel .. which is a huge compliment .. as she is my very favourite ppl with their animals photographer ..
