agreed, this should have been much higher. I voted 9 and assumed it would at least be in the top 10.

Looking at the comments I think people just didn't get the connection to the challenge. Trust me, if you meet this guy in this stairwell, he has the authority in your situation.

wow. I can't believe this finished so low. For what it is worth, I gave this the only 10. <> :)

This was another good image that should have finished much, much higher.

Thanks for the comments. Nice to know I placed behind a picture of a freaking stop sign.

Nice composition and superb lighting. I like the almost monochromic look of the image and how the red draws your attention to the figure upstairs. Well thought out - great shot.

Clever. Dramatic. Spooky. There is no strong connection with the challenge theme however.

Technical: good use of lighting and contrast. Sharp, and in focus.
Artistic: I think the person's red hooded coat distracts somewhat...if he was in a black hooded coat, now that would be really spooky. Otherwise, there is a nice use of lines, geometric shapes and I think the perspective and crop really works well.

Overall, this is a good photo but suffers from a lack of strong connection with the challenge theme.

oooh scary. What makes it particularly emotional is that the guy is wearing cargo pants. and the scariest of villians always dress a few years out of style!

maybe its my monitor but i can't see any of the dark space in the bottom. i understand that revealing no texture in the stairs could be intentional, but i find that the negative space is slightly too strong for the picture.

that's just being picky though, i like the silhouettte and the general composition.

The Lighting here is brilliant, though I find the red tone of the hood a little distracting, pehaps a black sweater next time ?

All the same, a great image...9

This guy looks more like death than authority :)
If he was dressed in another way and if you did something to the light it would be a 9, but it's a 7 for now.

Looks more of a subject of fear or intimidation, not authority

Good job at conveying mood--it's a bit of a stretch for the challenge fo "Authority", but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. This would also work very nicely as a B&W.

Interesting idea. The light area on the left hand side distracts from the main focus. A little more cropping would greatly improve this shot, allowing the hand rails to guide the eye to the Man.

This is such a cool and creepy shot. If you crop out that bit of the wall on the left, it will darken the tone even more and make the shot feel even more claustrophobic. Still, very nice job.

when i lived in an apartment, i was more concerned about the man in the basement, who had control over the heating, cooling, and plumbing for the entire building...that was authority. this image does not really evoke an impression of authority for me. what rules is he going to enforce? or is he just a scary dude?

I entirely miss any connection this has to the challenge. The crop, keeping thewhite bricks on the left in, draws important away from the silhouette.

This gives me the feeling of horror rather than authority; however, sometimes they are the same thing, aren't they? I would have cropped the light on the brick wall out of the image, it distracts from your focal point, which is imposing.
