Challenge - use the real camera. And real lenses, for that matter. This is the long one.

I have a feeder for this little guy. He lets his lady friends join him but isn't very receptive to other gents. I'm not very good at catching him in flight, but I can get a shot off now and then when he sits still!

Post posting - heh! I almost matched the background color of DPC!

good heavens, that sheen coming off its head is wonderful :) really distinctive, and well-contrasted with the otherwise "drab" environment of the composition

Oh i love this. The color of the environment is so neutral and then you see this beautiful pop of color. The eye then catches your attention too. What a beauty! And you did a good job capturing this. I am sure it's incredibly difficult to catch a hummingbird in a still moment.

This is the first time I've seen a humming bird sitting still. Don's comment summed it up pretty good.

Great capture! That beautiful little bird is wearing sequins.

Ha ha! I understand exactly what Don said but if I'd see one on my window sill I'd jump to get my camera!
I wish I had a necklace piece like his!

Beautiful color and textures in the feathers on his head. Congratulations! I have a fair number in my yard, but even if they sit still, they blend so well into the background that I've never been able to get a decent shot of them.

He’ll never know what a coller he’s got.

They are so hard to capture, aren't they? Unlike Don, I will never tire of a good capture of one of these amazing creatures in their impossibly fast motion :) I do enjoy the detail, especially in the throat feathers, here.

dpc has given me an irrational hatred of hummingbirds

that being said

this particular demon is soothingly not flying

and has a different kind of grace than the normal spectacular grace of which I am so not fond.
