Yes, I know potatoes are tubers, but tubers are "root vegetables" and after 3 farmers markets and 4 supermarkets when you find not one but two seals in a bin of sweet potatoes you thank god and go with it. What a scavenger hunt.

Props to the Mrs. for reminding me we had these stones in jars in the basement.

(after voting):

This was my original submission but I suspect it would have been DQ'd for the background. I replaced the blurred photograph with a nondescript texture print and re-shot.

Sorta cancels out that whole ridiculous diatribe, huh? Congrats on your blue. I guess you truly understand the concept of a challenge now.

And again, my diatribe had nothing to do with the specifics of the challenge and everything to do with how those specifics would impact participation, and in turn how that limited participation would impact scoring. That you saw it as ridiculous means that you truly didn't bother to read it. I hope you truly understand the concept of a fact-based argument now.

so your argument was about participation. so a "fact" is an incorrect prediction. Got it.

Or perhaps I was just the right kind of negative force people needed to get off their butts and prove me wrong, in which case potential problem averted. Got it?

Nice DOF. Where in the world did you find such things to photograph? Did someone leave them there?

Well, congratulations, Jake. All that kerfuffle and look what you went and did! Fabulous work - beautiful setting and awesome seals. 9 from me, equal top pick along with a couple of others.

I suspect that from now on I'll never be able to look at a sweet potato in the usual way without referring to it as a seal or a pig or a member of a circus
Here, the addition of the pebbles and water creates the most calming effect - the scene IS real but we all lost pretty much the innocence and cannot see it.

Best of the bunch imho. Bumping +1 and the only 10 I've ever given to a pair of seals!

Beautiful. A bit too dodged for my taste, but the color range, setting, and of course, poses are brilliant.
