I took this photo of my cat, Kirby, trying to capture the soul that shows in his eyes.

It was difficult to capture - as he knows that the flash is coming and tends to turn his head away from me. I get lots of profile and back of the head shots.

Kirby is 12 1/2 and is ill - we are nursing him through heart disease.
I am glad this photo went over fairly well - despite being another "cat" shot.

Photo was resized, converted to B&W, increased contrast and brightness, sharpened a bit.

Cropping was unnecessary. Original can be seen here.

Edit: Kirby lost his battle with heart disease on 10/16/05. I miss him desperately. He was the light of my life.

What a beautiful memory to have of your beloved Kirby. My condolences on your loss...I know you will treasure the photos you have that capture the light in his eyes as seen here. :)

Can't say I'm a cat photo fan either, but I thought this was great - I also have a cat and realize trying to photography these beasts can be a difficult task. Should have done a lot better score-wise.

Not a big fan of the kitty shot; however, this one is great. 8.

Good crop and nicely filling the frame with the subject. The image looks nicely sharp, the eyes mostly clear, and the exposure and tonal range looks good.

Nice photo, but it might be a good idea to try to photograph something more original for the next DPC challenge.
