So this was quite interesting to try. I tried a different series with people, but it fell flat, so I tried doing this instead.

A couple of things:

Moriarty still wants to be in every picture in which I don't want him. And avoids me at all costs for the photos in which I do want him.

This was no exception.

Cinders!! Hey Cinders! Do you want to sit on a chair??

First, let's see how the painting goes.

A couple of people questioned how I could get the cat to sit still for that long.

You can't.

Even Cinders, the plop and don't move cat, will still move her head.

But it doesn't matter.

Since I drew the chair with the light pointing straight out, it didn't throw hardly any light on the cat.

Here's an example:

So I painted the chair with light (slide the flashlight along the edges. I was much better at one side than the other. I should have been more consistent). The I had a flash that I picked up, pointed at Cinders, and used the test button on the flash to light her.

Try not to trip over anything in the dark as you get back to the camera and click the remote cord to finish the shot. (would have been easier to use the remote triggers for this, but I wasn't sure it would work on bulb mode.

It does.)

Thanks for the comments!

Congrats. I'm most impressed with the Kitty Kallen reference. Few of us are old enough to know what they missed.

Love the mix of crisp cat portrait and hastily scrawled chair sketch. Excellent idea well executed. Hope this is doing well.

Amazing - I'd almost forgotten the name - my first love in the 1950's expecially when she sang "If I Give my Heart to You". Oh btw, nice image - truly painted with light.

I don't know how you pulled this off without having the kitten move, but for shear novelty and execution it deserves to be on the front page IMHO.

That is pretty cool! I'm even more amazed that the cat stayed still for that long...
