I'm so excited about this one! First of all, I didn't have to shoot something at home!! A neighbor chauffeured me to PT that morning, and we went out to lunch after. We decided to lunch at the Chickahomany House, which is actually a house. One part is a small gift shop, the other side is the restaurant. We were about 5 minutes early, so we poked around in the shop. This gentleman was sitting on a bench waiting for something and was very intently reading a list, refolding and looking at it again. He was so wonderful, I tried to stay out of the way and use my cell phone for pictures. I really didn't want to be obvious or make him uncomfortable, so I'm sidling out of the way and trying to be surreptitious. I was probably as obvious as a Mack Truck! :)

And then came the editing. It was fun to think of it as a painting. I started working with the tones and contrasts, and it felt very painterly to be playing with it in such a way. It really was fun to look at it from a different point of view.

Thanks for the comments!

And thanks to the unknown gentleman for being such a fascinating person. I would have loved to have just stayed there and watched and tried different angles.

Diary update: no driving still. Making progress still. Getting really stir crazy and wanting to be able to actually drive somewhere!

Wow....
If I didn't know better I'd think it was an Edward Hopper painting...great job.

Looks like he's reading The List out loud.

Wonderful!

Congratulations on the BLUE when you're handicapped, friend. It's even more impressive.

Well done! Your all around greatness with anything that takes pictures and precessing skills are shining this month.
This one seems very much like a Norman Rockwell painting to me, though it also fits the challenge to a tee.
If the people who run the shop say he is someone who comes there once in a while You might think about leaving a print of this at the little shop for the man and his family to have.

I hope you're zooming around in your car again soon.

I think this is what Manet would have liked. Maybe not provocative and controversial, but it tells a story through expression, position and framing. Nicely done.

Love this! Excellent composition, the facial expression is priceless. My favorite! Giving this a 10 in hopes for a well deserved ribbon.

Wonderful find. Except for the shoes, this could definitely be a period piece.
