We were staying in Newport, RI over the weekend. When snow started at twilight family tired of daily activities stayed at the hotel, and I wondered alone around deserted marina. Absolutely happy.
So grateful to DPC for this...

I meant to get back to this one in the voting/commenting. As tate said, David Hockney sprang to mind, but this is so not a painting by DH. All that colourful noisy snow sprinkling down, and then the sheer magic of the white light and the golden arches. We feel the happening, but the construction is so strong we wonder if it isn't wholly a trick, a trick of the mind like the way we remember embracing the snow as children.

Love the composition. The yellow works well too. If you spend a little bit of time with this one, it gets better and better the longer you look.

You've been POLM'ed.

Oddly compelling. Wonderful processing and so nice to look at. Bravo.

A sensitively constructed composition respecting the flatness and dynamism of the picture plane and the four lines describing its edges. Lines spring from those edges and reframe fields of texture and mood which contrast and contend with each other. Abstract and deceptively understated, this image is an exercise in minimalism that is at the same time tense with repressed expressionism. It is one of the few that has both a good eye for the art of composition and a feeling for modernist sentiment. If I had a bling to apply, this would get one. voted earlier

Wonderful composition!

I'm wondering if the dark reflection adds to it. I guess it kind of gives a sense of mystery....I'm not sure if it's a bit distracting, voted earlier.

riveting. will come back for more later.
OK. I'm back. The complementary colors are candy. The blurred motion of the snow is just right to add a dreamy natural texture. The clean processing on the railings reminds a David Hockney painting. And McDonalds. The shadowy reflection on the right is ominous while the mysterious object on the left keeps us in reality and out of a dream. The composition is balanced and the eyes can't help but jump around with wonder.

Congrats, you are my personal selection for an Honorable Mention from the ImageNation Jury awards!

It's all about hope, isn't it? The mood here is entrancing. I award you the Bronze Bear Paw.

I keep coming back to this... a sensitive, trained eye only would notice and care to shoot a view such as this one. Out of season, lonely and poetic but I find hope here... 8

This image has caused me to stop and pay attention. That means it is in my 7-10 voting band. (Voted earlier)

Additionally, it is highly interesting/eclectic meaning it keeps me here long enough to offer a longer comment and a vote of 8 or more.

This is one of my 10s - I like it very much. Furthermore I think it enriches the DPC collective portfolio. Put simply, I wish we saw more stuff like this. Let me tell you why it pushes all the right buttons for me:

1. Superb composition
2. Wonderful coloration
3. Dynamism and stillness - in magical simultaneity.

Overall, an image that is really successful in offering more than the sum of its parts.

many have tried to make art this way, by cropping to a geometric abstract, but few succeed as well as you have here. Of course, the snow makes a big difference. Is this Elsa?
