thanks. yes, i pulled up the overall brightness in post, to keep the shot from being too 'moody'. thanks for the feedback.

Fantastic shot, Mag. It does seem a little bright though.. I think I'd have tried to get the b/g to be pretty much black. Maybe just a contrast increase is needed? Still an excellent position, well done.

lovely model and portrait. I like it as is but wonder if the shawl was necessary.?

Very familiar photo, hopefully from the same photographer. The lighting on the black robe is perfect. Just enough highlights. Great expression and very engaging eyes. Contact lenses are plainly visible but who really cares?

Beutiful portrait but just a tad overexposed, the camera is probably averaging on the black garment and causing the slight overexposure. Nice shot still. 9, would have been a 10 with a -2/3 exposure compensation.

beautiful pic. soft skin. great lighting setup. Only the cut of the black garment (which is somewhat white and along her face) distracts a little.
BTW is she wearing contactn lenses?. 9

I think you did a beautiful job on this. The only thing I can think of that could be improved is the white squares reflected in her eyes but that is very minor.

Inspired by National Geographic? Very beautiful portrait photo. Her eyes just captivate me. The only suggestion is for the intial setup of the scarf. The edging looks too rough. Perhaps wrapping it inwards and having a folded soft edge would have helped. It doesn't take away from the photo, I am just being picky I guess.

Returning for comments.
A very smart portrait. The make-up is wisely understated and the somber expression adds to the harmony of the semi veiled subject. The lighting is just right. Hard to go wrong with such a lovely model. Bumping up.

Superb tone, lighting and mood in this portrait.
Very well done and well-deserving of a 10.
One of my favorites in this challenge.

This is a perfect portrait. Sharp focus with a quality of softness in the subject.

very startling eyes, and a very gorgeous shade of brown. under the rules though, you could have cloned out some of the red in the eyes, the slightly dark line the is evidence of contact lens's and possibly made the white of the eyes a bit whiter... might have given the subject matter of your title a bit more definition and prominence. still a lovely, well composed and taken image though. 7.

Nicely balanced, perfect skin and highlights. The background seems too light (imho) for the shot and the window reflection in her eyes was distracting, but I also know I couldn't come close to a shot like this. Very nice.

A similar picture to a past challenge entry, but I REALLY like the shot. The black veil and brown eyes/hair make for a very compelling image.

Love it. I think slightly more dramatic lighting could have made this even better, but I love her eyes. Good luck in the challenge!

I can't help drawing a comparison to the popular National Geographic photo of the Afghani girl. Without that comparison, your picture would rate better with me. It's a bit inconsistent to have her with a burqa-like shawl and lip gloss and streaked hair. The catch lights are kinda big. A fine portrait if not for such strong resemblance to the NG pic.

WOW! It's very similar to some recent entries - but SUPERBLY done. Perfect exposure and great selection of costume (and model of course.) Best portrait in the challenge, hands down.

Has a somewhat Steve McCurry look to it. I have no experience with people portraits so my opinions are purely personal. I think there is a little too much black cloth at the bottom of the shot and probably would have preferred that the face fill the frame a little more and had the cloth down to the first crease under the chin. the lighting looks good although there is a fairly heavy shadow from her nose. The eyes look clear and sharp and the skin tones look good too.

Grand work as usual! Great submission, nice eyes, good pose, superb tones. You might consider dodging the shadow left of the nose just a tad. Super work, though; I'm being nitpicky. 9
