Wow, thank you all for the comments. I totally understand the desire to crop down. The shot is in an old roofless barn that's now a sculpture garden. The original frame had more trees showing and I wanted to preserve the feel of the space while emphasizing the people seen through the doorway, so I cropped as you see here.

*Hello from Sid and the Critique Club*

A very interesting image that needs the title to fulfil the challenge.

What a fascinating image, similar to one of your commenters, I am not that enthusiastic about infra red for the sake of it but this is one of those rare captures that the infra red really is adding another special quality to the image. Though there are no challenge details the feeling of the 'the end' is implied through your title. There is a great range of tones with good detail throughout, the path takes us to the doorway and the gorgeous light beyond, I like the inclusion of the figures and purposeful walk of the front person. I am a fence sitter regarding the crop, I quite like the top because the wall has some interesting shapes and the tops of the trees add to the feeling of space, but I can also see why the crop appeals as well, I like both.

The shadows and the ephemeral glow from the foliage is what makes this image work for me they are very appealing, it really does need the IR to make it work in this way. Congratulations on your high placing it has been a real pleasure to look at this image, thank you, Sid

I'm usually disdainful of IR photos. Most often I find them to be gimmicky and seldom see added interest/value as a result of the technique. This is different. This is stunning. If I'd been here in time to award my humble bling before rollover, I'd have left you one of these...;.

Buttery smooth contrast, slivers of light and shadow, framed with purpose. Very nice stuff.

I absolutely love the view to and through the arch. The tones and the atmosphere are beautiful. I find the area above the wall a little bit distracting. I like the two mysterious, shadowy statues.
Bumping this up to top 3.

Am sat here moving the image up and down on my screen trying to decide if I prefer the top bit (trees)cropped off or not. A great image either way but think I'd prefer the cropped version. (bumping 1).

I like this picture. I try to figure out if a crop on top would have been better. My eyes are always looking at the man in the center. And the gate. All the rest of the picture is not really needed. It looks like a movie poster from the 50's. My favorite for the blue ribbon. A 10 from me
