Challenge: I am the Walrus (Advanced Editing VII*)
Collection: Challenges 2015
Camera: Samsung Galaxy S4
Location: Costco parking lot
Date: Jun 20, 2015
Aperture: 2.2
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/530
Date Uploaded: Jun 20, 2015

Walking back from Costco after picking up a poster I had made*, I saw the carts, saw the light, then saw the two gents and the kid approaching. Waited for them to walk into the frame. The hazard of stupid phone cameras is you only get one shot at it, especially when you're dorky enough to use Instagram mode.

By the way, yanko (y'all remember yanko, right??) liked it on FB. That makes it a winner in my book! :-)

*The poster I picked up is the second of a limited edition (so far there are two) of my Abstract Green entry, reprocessed without emphasizing the green, and cropped a bit to fit a 20x30 aspect ratio. The first one sold for a jar of homemade strawberry jam. Haven't negotiated the price of the second one yet.

B&W for Tom.

To answer Lydia, I don't know what I "feel" like as a photographer - I just shoot. Most of the time it's the light that catches my eye, like here. Sometimes it's a subject. I just like to see what the camera sees. I don't know that I ever shoot to try to say anything. I let the pictures speak for themselves, I suppose. And they say different things to different people - that's the true delight of photography!

Since this was apparently a popularity contest of some kind based on knowing who shot the picture, I guess I'm kinda unpopular.... Or I just suck at taking pictures. Or I suck at picking pictures to submit. Something along those lines, yes?

All forms of transportation make a shadow. It's a wonderful balance of subjects. Definitely a "you" type of photo. :) Good luck!

Drat! Why couldn't you have entered the fish in this one! I loved your pastel Pisces. But this one doesn't sing to me. I like it better now that I figured it out. It looked like stacked cages to my bad eyes on a laptop. But now that I'm on the big screen, I see it more. I do love the inclusion of the feet and shadow people!

This is terrific and captures your personality nicely. You have such great vision in your images; they are not eye candy, but always interesting and well done. I really like the soft colors and the feet coming into the scene. (voted earlier, bumping up)

I love this shot. They look like Marionettes dangling. Not sure I will vote.

Yes, I voted. I can't give ribbons, but this is a 10.

Strangely i can't stop looking at this one. The oncoming group; the shadows; the curve ove the curb; the bump in the road; the light in general- all compelling in such an understated everyday subject.

You are not ready for the cart! Stick to the bike. Playful yet detached

Deb, this could be an entry to "Music" challenge, and you are a Master of catching it in the everyday life!

I sense trouble up ahead, three youths and some trolleys could be mischief.

Truly? This is YOU, Deb?

This is what you feel like as a photographer?

I never KNEW!?

What are you saying here?

I want to know.

Are you the empty carts?

Are you the people... bringing joy into the scene?

What?

I want to know.

I'm surprised by this.

P.S. I really LOVE the image.

Very well judged. Making the everyday mundane interesting. Thanks for staying true and not bending towards the safe and status quo.

You are fearless. Please stay this way.

This is so incomplete. So many questions. Thanks.

A symphony of shadows from an explosive shopping card. Love the action and second theme by the trio. I wonder if it might have had more impact in BW. voted earlier

I keep finding myself coming back to this image over and over, not because it's yours, but because it demands repeat viewings. I look at this and I keep looking for the name of the book or the author, it has that sense of innocence/innocence lost that you only really see the difference after going through the events with the people (characters). I'm sure this is very un-DPC, but that doesn't mean it's not a good image in- and of-itself.

fantastically simple on the surface, chaos belying the high key geometric light and form.
