 Minimal editing does not mean minimal work!
Red pepper put some time pressure into the mix because it is getting a bit old and battered. Background is a translucent oriental paper screen with black wooden slats with a red-gelled strobe behind it softened with 2 foot by 3 foot diffuser. Tripod took quite a bit of fiddling to get the pepper against the black background and keep all the elements in the frame. Red pencils are borrowed from my wife's craft room. The red pepper is elevated on my Hoodman loop. Objects are lit overhead with a narrow soft box, flagged to keep excess light from spilling onto the background.

Shot with minimal editing in mind. Ended up going back for 4 folders of shots to adjust things so the edges of the frame work ok, the back corners of the table are hidden, the paper is bright without being blown out, and smoothing out fabric wrinkles and brushing away dust spots from the fabric. Shot in sRBG color space with "flash" color balance. Tried using the allowed "sharpen" function in Photoshop, but that seemed to make no difference, so kept it simple and omitted that for final version. Processing indeed minimal: unmodified file from camera taken directly to save for web (with bicubic sharper) to get 800 px on the long side with permissible file size. Learned a lot about setting up lights and flags and about being patient with myself.
