I think it's the lack of truly dark silhouette... for me anyway. (I didn't vote, but I would have given this a six.)

The contrast could have been added in post processing.

Still... it's a lovely image.

I gave it a 6. While I don't object to strong highlights, I think that two hot spots lined up vertically on the left overpowered the subject. I think I might have tried a tighter crop and cloned out the pinpoint hot spots on the duck's reflection. I do like the color warmth and overall mood conveyed.

I liked it - gave it a 6. Had a lot of initial visual impact, but impact declines a little bit when I go into critique mode and start picking it apart. Pretty much all of the things previously mentioned. Tha said, it would have done much better in a topical challenge like maybe "Sunsets & Duck Silhouettes" ;-) As stated, a 6+ in a FS is laudable.

I gave it a 7 because I loved the warmth it had and the misty look. However I do feel as if you could've had more detail on the bird itself.

I think a 6 is fairly good. But the world is going to end; you have blown out areas. Personally, I like the composition. Maybe for a photo like this, a portrait crop would work better, but I'm no expert to say. As far as story and emotion go, there isn't all that much, however it does leave room for some (again, in my personal view). I would probably have voted 6, maybe 7, depending on the time of day, the position of the moon, sunspots, etc.

If this had my name on it it would have garnered a 4

Boring but OK 4 or 5 if I was on a high.

I like the golden color captured, but those 'bumps' in the water near the top third of the image distracted me a little, and the loon seemed a bit washed out - probably due to the pretty light - but to me - I didn't enjoy looking at the loon as much because of the softness.

Bright areas represent areas of lost detail due to being blown out glare. Also, detail lost in the shadows, as it is mostly a silhouette. The composition is awkward and leaves the viewer in a quandary as to where to focus attention. I continue to look for something interesting to view in the scene, but come up empty. The score is a gift. I didn't vote in this FS challenge.

Use your hand to cover the bright area, and you just get a really boring loon on the pond. To me, the bright spots made the photo.

It's a nice image but it just is on the boring side. It is lacking some punch. I would give it a 5.

Great timing and low perspective.
