Should have been top three, if not number one! Keep up the great photos. I am looking forward to seeing more from you.

Excellent depth of field. Nice framing, although it seems a little left sided. (8)

very nice use of depth of field. I like the colors, light.

this is so pretty! what detail! great use of dof!!!

I know the subject is the thorns, but my eyes keep moving back to the barns, and them being out of focus really bothers me. Perhaps lowering the camera would make the thorns more prominent. Colors are good.

Godd use of DOF. The black border works well. Good job.

Interesting idea, creatively photographed. It doesn't really grab me, but it's technically a very good photo.

This is a great layout, but I think it would have worked better if there had been more contrast between the thistles and the background. 7

Perhaps a little too prominent. Your landscape is completely blurred, and though I know you meant to do this, I don't think the thorns are enough of an interesting focus for htis picture.
01/18/2003 11:19:37 AM
This picture is a great example of DOF, moreso than landscape. It has wonderful colors. The thorns are perfectly sharp. 7 is best I can do for you though.
01/18/2003 12:34:44 AM
perhaps if yo wer to get about 5inches lower and focus on the same subject, more feild would be in the picture and lessen the "harshness" of the barn's white parts... I guess maybe a little less sky in post shot cropping... 10 however :) (some very poor photos this week :(

Interesting...lovely colours. The reddish brown matches very well with the red in the barn. I really like the DOF. Excellent composition, sharp and balanced exposure. Get the feeling this one won't do as well due to the focus...but we'll see. Good luck.

At first glance, I didn't think I liked your DOF, but the more I looked the better I liked it. The colors and lighting are awesome and I like it a lot! You are taking a chance in the challenge, I hope you score well.

Great colors. Great clarity on the thorny things. Composition seems a bit off - maybe if the thorns were more to the right that might balance out the barns or something. Very nice shot. 8 md

O.K. I love foreground stuff and these prickly guys are wonderful, but by focussing on them, IMO you make this a picture of them, with the background being just that. (takes away from the landscape idea a bit) I love this shot, so I'm going to "ding" you two points, that's all. 8 Swash

Beautifully detailed weeds...but I wonder if a little less would have been better? The background seems to be totally separate from them. A close crop could solve that problem. Great colors and well composed.
01/15/2003 01:25:09 PM
Would be rewarding to see those handsome barns more clearly. Sharp focus on thorns.

This is one of my favorite shots this week. I love your effective use of a shallow depth of field to use the lanscape to accent your subject... great photo :) - 10 - setzler

A "macro"landscape image....this is soooo well done. Excellent tones and colors. This is my top image. Good luck!

I LOVE this perspective on landscape. IMHO this is one of the most creative photos in the challenge. It's really beautiful. It fit in the landscape, but it's excellent photography as well. The horizon looks maybe a tad bit slanted, but this is still a really cool photo. Nice job, and good luck! -9-

I think that I may be looking at a closeup shot, not a landscape. Even though I can see it in the background it isnt the main subject. Beautiful pic .7
01/14/2003 05:26:35 AM
Nicely done. Colour is warm and cuddly, unlike the subjects. The white doors on the barns are probably the only let down, but i guess there was nothing that could be done about those. I'm not sure if it fits into landscape as much as some of the others though. 6.
01/14/2003 12:26:19 AM
I would have given this a ten if the barns were in focus. Really. Maybe if you want to try to fix that you could change the f stop or aperture. It tells you in the your instruction book how to do that. I am assuming though that this was intentional. Good luck!
01/14/2003 12:07:17 AM
The blur in the background really helps to bring out the detail of the plants. I like the coloring as well, very warm.
01/14/2003 12:06:21 AM
Wow - beautiful. Great detail in your foreground, enhanced by the landscape. Even though it's out of your focus area (which I imagine some people won't like) - the barn and countryside really set a mood. Great job.

I know the thorns were the purpose but it would have been nicer with the barns in focus... Cub
01/13/2003 06:55:51 PM
It's nice but... The two thorn sticks aren't really enough of a subject to focus in so much on, in my opinion. They aren't strong enough. Now, if you would have zoomed closer in on just ONE of them so it took up a lot more of the frame, and with the bigger barn on the left in the picture also, it would have been a great picture. :) You still get a 7 tho.

do I get the empression of still life--I like it
01/13/2003 03:44:15 AM
I like that you focused on the thorns upclose. You can still see the rest of the landscape in the background, but this just gives it an interesting point of view. I know it probably doesn't fit the classical terms of a landscape, but I liked it a lot.8.
