Totally disagree. I converted this to black and white just to see... just looks like an overcast day; becomes very forgettable in B&W.
I do have to agree with others on the surfer though, I wish he (she?) wasn't centered under the building. I don't know if positioning him/her left or right would have been better; maybe even all the way to the left of the picture? But of course it's not a model at a photoshoot, so I have to say you did an amazing job of capturing the moment!

| In addition to what's been mentioned, your choice of cropping and framing also contribute to the overall quality. And I think you've made it so if it's printed out at 24" x 12" it will wrap perfectly around an album cover. I'll be happy to make a mock-up for you if you want, or if you don't have page-layout software. |

| You've just taken first place and I'm suppose to critique this picture...One of the things I tell my class is, " If everyone was to take a picture of sunsets, or hands or what ever, only one or two would reach out and grab you as an outstanding picture." Yet everyone had the same topic to shoot, so why are some pictures just better than others? Composition, how the image fits on your paper, that's the key. Take away the person with the board in the foreground and your picture is not as good. Take away the pier and your picture would have been in the middle of the pack. What I'm saying is, Yes! you saw a beautiful sunset, but you also did a great job of composing your picture. Great job! You deserved the Blue Ribbon. In your photograph information you put down you shot the picture at 1/25th of a second, was that a typo? Should it have been 1/125? Just wondering. |

| Very nice...great colour. I'd personally have tried to get the surfer out to the left, away from the shadow of the pilons where he seems a bit lost. Nice image though. |

| Awesome colors. My only nit, and I understand you probably couldn't control it is the location of the surfer. If he/she had been on the right, you would have one "kick butt" shot here. As it is, it taps butt really hard. Score bump to 10. |

| The surfer is almost lost in the shadows of the pier. Wish you had caught him/her when (s)he was lined up with the bright part of the reflection of the sun. The sky around the sun is burnt out a bit, but not a fatal problem. I like the colors of the sky and they way they are mirrored on the beach and are cast over the water. 7 |

| My parents got to see the BB when I was real little. Dad caught a frisbee. Anyway, this is an excelent photo. I've never even seen a real surf board, I don't think. The colors in this shot are simply beautiful. The angle and framing/cropping is great as well. Focus and clarity are just fine. I can even see the little surfers out in the water. The border works nicely as well. Great shot. Good luck in the challenge. |

Great sunset! The only reason I didn't score any higher is your attention is drawn to the sunset and not the surfers, which the title suggests. Still beatutiful shot I just love the colors.7.

| I would have expected surfers for this song. This is a beautiful sunset. If there are surfers in the ocean it is too dark to see them. The one on the shore is also almost missed because of the darkness. Nice idea just needs lightened up and better execution. As is it is a 6. PTL |
