It may not win any photography praise but I can totally appreciate the excitement of the opportunity to photograph one. We have one near us that regularly swoops around the river and every time I go, he's not there. So this shot is GREAT! as far as I am concerned :) |

They are making a comeback here in NJ... link. It's always awesome to see them out in the wild! |

Eagles can be so uncooperative ;-) But any time I get a recognizable picture of one, I'm happy. It always feels like such a privilege to see one in the wild. |

Although far away, it must be nice to see such a bird in the wild. |

That is my home turf. I grew up in Ottawa and have spent many a day in Starved Rock State Park. I miss getting out there, it is a magical place.
Nicely photographed image - these eagles are wonderful, and so plentiful compared to when I grew up when we never saw any. |

I do very much like the "big picture" of this over a close up of the eagle. Nice to see the environment and gives a sense of scale. |

I love bare tree branches anyway, even more so when decorated by a bald eagle. Gives a sense of scale. |

Like you I think the sense of space and the light on the branches is very nice. We went about 200 miles to see eagles near a dam in central Nebraska and this is about as close as I could get, too. Luckily we made it a two-day trip and combined it with lots of other photo stops so it was worth the drive LOL |

One thing we know about Bald Eagles, there will be a river or lake with open water nearby so they can catch fish. On March 11, 2012, it's most likely a river. Eagles prefer to be treated to easy fishing. So, there's likely a roller dam nearby which stuns the fish. Isn't it amazing how well the Bald Eagles have recovered from the DDT disaster of 50 years ago. I think you did well to spot the raptor. Excellent environmental shot. |

I think this is quite cool! Gives a feel of just how much of a tangle the branches are, and such a sense of size, considering the size of the bird. Very cool photo! |
