15 votes, 6.3333 and three comments - I can already see this is going to be very interesting.

In the end I had three crops to choose from: the uncropped version - I loved the entire background of this shot but hated that the flamingo was plunk in the middle horizontally; a crop that took some off the left side and most of the rocks off the top - positioned the bird better but lost some lovely splashes of light and still left the bird too centered I thought; the square crop that I went with that I felt kept enough of the rocks to give a sense of place and that gave the bird more space to walk into.

June 29, 2012 - post roll-over

This one was sooo much fun to watch - thoroughly enjoyed all the comments whether you hated the processing and moire patterns and bold color or loved them. I'll be studying up on the moire effect :)

Thrilled to have my first Posthumous award and to have it be a ribbon is even more special. Thanks!

Here are my original and two crops of the edited version that I considered before settling on the square. I think you can see that the image is not THAT processed (the funky patterns and colors are there in the original if enhanced a bit in pp); you can also see my composition dilemma.

Something seems very strange with the water, with the moire type patterns - the flamingo also seems to have developed a rather healthy glow! Good composition with plenty of room for the bird to move in to.

Curious display of moire effect in the water. Not something one would normally see with one's eyes. Definitely a distraction for me, but I'm certain some will like the abstract effect. I like the flamingo. This image could have been cropped quite a lot to your advantage.

This almost looks painted - love the effect on the bird, not so much on the water. I would maybe have cropped all those rocks at the top off to leave a landscape orientation with room for the bird to 'walk into'.

I like the funky processing on this, especially the way the reflections in the water look like graffiti. Wish the composition was a bit stronger.
