This photo was taken on a very rainy day with some short dry and sunny periods in between. Because of these weatherconditions I expected some dramatic looking skies and that was exactly what I was looking for to accentuate the fascinating shapes of the trees and capture the unique atmosphere of the area.

At the time I arrived at the spot, it was raining cats and dogs and the sky was dark and grey. The trees in the distance were hardly visible. After waiting for about an hour, there was no propspect that it would stop raining so I decide to call it day and drive back home.
On my way back home, about ten minutes later, one of the dry sunny periods showed up again. Without hesitating, I drove back again and made this photo.

I'm very satisfied with the result.

Thanks for the votes and comments!

In some comments it is mentioned that the photo isn't suitable for a Travel Guide. I don't agree with that, because the theme was "Travel Guide" not "Holiday Guide" and the purpose of photos in a Travel Guide is to give a good impression of a travel-destination. And that's exactly what this photo does :)

I've used a wide white border because I want the white to function as a background-color. IMHO The photo looks better on a white background then on the grey DPChallenge-background. After all paper in most travel guides is white too :)

I like the composition very much. An enormous amount of space in this piccture.

What a sky: what a view with the understatement of the ground. Just great.

This is one of those excellent photographs that I would normally give an 8 or a 9, but it just doesn't suit the challenge that well.

I really can't see a photo like this in a travel guide, because it doesn't make me want to visit the location for a vacation. All I really see are some trees and clouds and I have those in my backyard, you know what I mean? But boy, do I ever like this photograph!

is this an amazing photo that is going to win? Or does it just look amazing to me because it doesn't look like thiis where I live??? 10

Very impressive cloud formation and as a dominant feature of the photo. It would look more impressive if there was higher contrast in the clouds than is currently offered. The border is also a bit too thick.

The title is perfect. Very nicely done. Reminds me a bit of Remie's Cowspace.

Very simple and I like it a lot !

Like it, but I don't think it's suitable for a travel guide...

This is a wonderful shot (the white border is a bit too wide for my tastes) and the simplicity is its strength. That said, I don't think it fits a Travel Guide -- perhaps a title that would help me know where to go if I wanted to visit here??

Wow! Talk about perspective! So far, this is my favorite for the challenge!

Simply stunning shot! I love the B&W and the choice to keep so much sky. Really makes the shot unique!

Way too much border for my tastes. It shrinks the image for me. 6

Yep, a 10 from me. You make my eyes smile. :)

great shot. for some reason i've always liked shots that defy the rule of 3rds, and contain a lot of interesting sky.

color would have been awesome...the b&w just doesnt have anything interesting going on...blah
