How are we supposed to tell some of these photos arent using mirrors? Its not a problem in most, but some Im really struggling to see that a mirror WASNT used? Any suggestions?

I think I know the one you have mentioned, try looking at the wicks on the candles. It is a relection without a mirror, just maybe a bit of creativity applied to the actual photo (for a change)..

I would say we're supposed either to assume no mirrors are being used or to recommend the photo for disqualification and have dpchallenge to take a look at the "making of" or the original of the pic. I am getting very low ratings on a pic with comments saying I'm using mirrors. Which leads me to think people are not actually _looking_ at the photo, but they will nevertheless rate. Amazing...

not meeting the challenge is not a DQ issue I think.
Personnaly I do a -1 -2 or -3 in that 'aspect' ... if there is explicitly a mirror , I will do a -3 on the score.

No, not meeting the challenge is not a valid reason for DQ anymore. There's some confusion about it among voters, but there was an official announcement made about it some time ago.

Some shots now have Admin notes stating that mirrors were NOT used. Take another look at those you had doubts about and see if it is one of them. Also, if you are being told you used a mirror, do whatever those folks did to get an Admin message on their shots...

On a related note, the reflection is not suppose to show the camera. Is it my imagination or do I see several that missed the mark here? If so, how are folks scoring these?

I am also getting a low score not with comments saying I'm using a mirror but for using a cool subject and not having much of a reflection. However the entire photo is the reflection for the challenge shot and the reflection in the reflection was just part of the pic.

This week we are just gonna have to grin and bare it ... if YOU know you took a really cool reflection photo .. then that's great and be proud of it - some people may not understand your photo or even see what you are trying to portray ... and if you can handle the low score even knowing that you know it's a cool photo then just look forward to any comments that you may get and at the end of the week email those people asking about the subject matter and deal with it that way ... i know it's tough .. but just think .. there's always next week .. and the week after that ... and so on :)

good luck and have fun with the challenge...

I am getting trounced this week. I think it's because if you look too quickly at the picture it's hard to see that part of the content is a relfection. Also, it may not be obivous as to how it's been done (i.e. people may think I used a mirror but I didn't).

I knew that was a problem, so now I am eagerly awaiting the end of the week to get some input through the forums, as the comments don't reveal why the score is relatively low.

I'm getting nailed also. I read about a technique and attempted to use it in this challenge. I also got a bit too cute with the title to add another level to the shot. Yet I have learned another piece to the puzzle. . .

I am getting very low scores too because my whole pictre is a reflection, I guess. Didn't use any mirrors..just a window pane.

hmmm...what do you guys mean by 'very low scores'? 2's, 3's, 5's? What's your average so far?

Mine is the same type of shot but my scores are great. I am guessing, therefore, that that is NOT the reason you are getting low scores.
